  • Creative Art

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students have been using the paints, paint brush, and canvas to integrate art with U.S History. Throughout the school year my students learned about many different theme of history. For one of their finally history project they needed to paint a piece about the certain time in U.S History or issues that our country has faced. It was really amazing to see what they created. One student painted the first United State Flag. Others painted landscape that Native American people might have lived in.

When my students first saw the materials, they were very curious as to what a canvas was. They were very excited to learn that they would each get their own canvas and would be able to use paint and paint brushes. Many of my students had never used paint let alone a canvas.

The next steps for my students would be to incorporate the elements of art in their paintings. I will also love for my students to integrate art with science.”

The ending project for the parachute stem kit for my students to design and construct a parachute. Once all the parachute are made we will place an egg and release the parachute and hope the eggs don't break.

  • Toon Books!

    Funded Dec 30, 2016

The Toon Books have made a tremendous impact on my students' reading. With the Toon Books I have been able to teach my students about literary elements such as themes and character traits. All the books have wonderful and vivid characters that my students can learn from. I was able to teach my students about making inferences based on the characters actions.

In my classroom there are many types of reading that occurs. Students have independent reading where they can choose what they read. Usually during independent reading they choose book that interest them. As a class, we read fiction and nonfiction text in order to learn about literally elements. There is also small group guided reading that is provided in order for students to receive instruction at their instructional reading level.

All my students have at least read one of the Toon Books. But I have a few boys who have really enjoyed reading just about all the books in the set. They enjoy the illustration and the characters development.”

  • History Through Art

    Funded Jul 15, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students and I have used the paints, canvas, and the paint brushes to integrate history with art. At the start of the school year I asked my students to look through their history books and find a particular picture or topic that stood out to them. From there they chose a topic or picture that they wanted to paint. They planned their canvas and sketched their picture. Finally they painted.

My students were amazed that they were going to be able to use the materials. They couldn't believe that they are generous people willing to donate their money, so that they could have these things. Every week they would ask me "Are we painting today?"

My students next step are to display their painting and be able to give historical information about their picture. They will give classroom presentation. Thank you so much for the experience my students had because of your generosity.”

  • Hands On Learning All The Way

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students are using the magnetism and electricity science kits during our science and history rotation. They are super excited for these rotation because they are able to learn about magnetism and electricity. They also feels a sense of accomplishment because the investigation in the kits are self-guided. My students feel really good about themselves because they don't need the teachers help. During the rotation they get to choose one of the nonfiction science books to read. One of my students now loves to read books about roller coaster because she read the book Mechanical Engineering.

When they first saw the material they were very anxious to use them. They wanted to read all the books and do all the investigations in both kits. They were wondering why we receive these material and I told them about donor choose. We are very thankful.

The next step for my current classroom would be to try to incorporate a Project Base Lesson. In the Project Base Lesson, students will have to investigate a question in regards to either electricity or magnetism. The question will be based on real life situations.”

    Mrs. Chacon

My students were super excited about the Scholastic News! They were even more amazed that they would be able to keep them. I've had multiple students keep asking me "so I can take it home". They couldn't believe that this wonderful resource was for them to use at school and would be able to take it home. They also said that all the photographs are really "cool".

The students use the resource almost on a daily basis. The Scholastic News allows me to integrate reading and writing skills with different theme in science and social studies.
