  • Print Please

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

Thank you again for your contribution. My students were so excited to see what was in the boxes. With the printer I was able to print reference chart for different areas of math.

I was able to create a bulletin board that featured our math wizard (my students). I was able to take a pictures of each of my students with a wizard hat on. With the printer I was able to print the pictures. With the donations I was also able to get a laminating machines. So I laminated the pictures, so they can be given to the students at the end of the school year.

My students were excited about being able to print and laminate their own math flash cards. They also had a great time using their new dry easer makers. I will give them a math problem and they would love to solve it with their dry easer makers.”

    With gratitude,

  • Read About Math

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

In my classroom, I do read aloud to introduce a new topic or concept in math. I am a strong believer in integration across subject areas. With my first grade, students learn a strategy of making ten which will help them with adding and subtracting. Before we practice that strategy I read the book 100 Bugs! A Counting Book. The book focused on character that count bugs.

Fractions Trouble! is another book that many of my third graders enjoy. They enjoy the book because many of my students can relate to the character. In the story, the main character is having a hard time with fractions. They are able to relate to the character in the story because they may also face the same type of feelings.

With the books that were part of the donation, I was able to set up section with math related books.”

  • Show Me the Math

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

When the boxes arrived with the materials, my students had no idea what was inside. I opened up the box and started to pull out the items. With everything that I pulled out they were so happy and exited. They would say " is that new" or "those for us".

We use the whiteboards, markers, and erasers almost on a daily basis. They use the whiteboards to demonstrate their understanding about a particular math concepts either to drawing a model, writing an equation, and just simply just writing down an answer. The reusable write wipe are used for daily practice of fact math. The array chart I use to model different concept in math like part-part-whole or using benchmarks on a number line.

The materials that were donated are very versatile which means they will be put to good use for a number of activities. I plan on displaying students work on the reusable write wipe pockets.”

  • Counting Counts!

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you once again for your generosity. My kinder students were so excited when they saw that they each had an Rekenrek they would be able to use for counting. Then I pulled out the giant magnetic Rekenrek. Their mouths dropped. It was both an amazing moment for both my students and myself.

With my kinder groups, I am using the individual and the giant magnetic Rekenrek to the develop their understanding on one to one correspondence. One activity that I do is to clap. Then the students move the bead across the Rekenrek. I will clap three times which will signal the students to move three bead across the Rekenrek.

The next steps for the kinder group would be to learn how to use the Rekenrek to gain an understanding of the concepts of both addition and subtraction. They will also be able to learn strategies like making ten which will help them throughout their math journey.”

  • Building Reading Skills

    Funded May 23, 2019

The new texts that I have been using with my students, are book that support their reading comprehension, writing skills, and spelling. One of the very first lesson that I thought was a lesson that help students with writing a short summary. They learned a strategy where they used their hands to help them remember that they needed to make five strong point. Another skill that I taught them was about identifying the main idea. In the main idea lesson, I taught them a strategy where they read a section of the text and taught about want the most important idea for that section was. Then the students drew a picture of that. After all the pictures were done, they needed to make a connection between them, so they can come up with a main idea.

In my classroom, reading can look various ways. One way is that we are reading some as a whole group. Students also get an opportunity to read independently with a book of their choosing. Lastly, I have guided reading groups where students are grouped based on their reading ability.

One particular student really enjoyed the main idea activity. She was really engaged throughout the lesson. She would draw a picture and wanted to kept reading.”

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

With the use of these wonderful books I was able to the lessons are main idea and details. The majority of the books are nonfiction books, so many of them I used to teach text structure such as cause and effect, compare and contrast, and problem solution.

There are many forms of reading in my classroom. I do a read aloud to my class at least once a week in order to help them in their listening comprehension. My students also do independent reading where they choose a book of their choice.

One of my students was really interested in reading the books dealing with how human have effect many of the animals on our planet.”

  • Creative Art

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students have been using the paints, paint brush, and canvas to integrate art with U.S History. Throughout the school year my students learned about many different theme of history. For one of their finally history project they needed to paint a piece about the certain time in U.S History or issues that our country has faced. It was really amazing to see what they created. One student painted the first United State Flag. Others painted landscape that Native American people might have lived in.

When my students first saw the materials, they were very curious as to what a canvas was. They were very excited to learn that they would each get their own canvas and would be able to use paint and paint brushes. Many of my students had never used paint let alone a canvas.

The next steps for my students would be to incorporate the elements of art in their paintings. I will also love for my students to integrate art with science.”
