  • Chromebooks for Engagement

    Funded Nov 6, 2019

Thank you so much for you donation to our class project. Technology, for better or worse, has become a large component of everyday learning for students. My students are required to complete one hour per day on a program specifically designed for students with Autism. This program facilitates and guides interactive lessons specific to each individual student based on skill deficits. Another program specific for students with Autism is a typing program to help students become more efficient. Fine Motor Skills can be weak in students with Autism (physical or sensory based) so typical typing programs are not beneficial for my students.

Apart from specific programs, my students also participate in daily tasks on the computer such as logging-in, accessing games, accessing tests or quizzes that are given online, watching educational videos to further learn about specific topics, etc. Before we received the Chromebooks, this would all be done on very old PCs. These would often move painfully slow, freeze, sometimes be incompatible with the latest programs, distort videos and pictures, and create high levels for frustrations for my students.

Since having the Chromebooks, we have been able to fluently switch between student profiles, stay focused on the various quizzes or assessments as the questions upload quicker, stay engaged in videos because all of the content loads before the video even plays, practice typing because the program is actually compatible with the devices now, and we thoroughly enjoy technology time because we know it will be meaningful and each student can access a device.

Thank you so much for your generosity towards our project. Sometimes I still cannot believe that we get to keep these!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. King

  • There Is a Book for Everyone!

    Funded Dec 6, 2019

Thank you so much for recognizing this need! My students will be so thrilled to have new books immediately available to them. I know they will all find something within their interest and ability range! I cannot wait to unpack all the books with them! They will be so excited! Thank you so much for your contributions. It is very much appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. King

My students have varying reading skills, personalities, cultural backgrounds, languages spoken at home, and the list goes on. Each student needs to find books that will speak to them and help them find their place in the world. Varied level readers means varied level books are a necessity. Students are encouraged to continue reading beyond what is required; if I have enough books on their level in my classroom library, this will be possible. Students, like adults, have favorite books that they choose to read over and over but also love to explore different genres, authors, and characters. Books help my students relate to the world around them.
