I teach at a Title I school. I have an excellent administration and a fabulous staff of teachers with whom to work. Many of my students have not grown up listening to their parents read to them. They have not been read bedtime stories and experienced hearing fluent and engaging stories. The reading program I teach is very individualized. Students choose the book they want to hear. I am working with mostly 4th graders now, as my 5th and 6th graders have mostly exited my reading intervention programs. The 4th graders are very motivated and are wanting to be engaged in their learning. I have 5 students with Autism who have shown that they are auditory learners. Being able to listen to their individual reading material will benefit all my students. My students have not been successful in reading in past years and this may be their last chance to catch up. That is what drives me to come to work each day. I know that the difference I can make daily will affect their whole lives.
