After reading the book Chains, a story about a young slave girl during the American Revolution, students will create a water color piece to analyze the book. Students will divide the paper in half, one side representing the protagonist of the story and the other side the antagonist. On each side, students will include symbolism and colors that represent the character in the story as well as which side each character was on in fighting the war. Each piece will create a mood and force the students to dive deeper into symbolism, evaluating text, and events that led to to our nation's independence.
