Chromebooks for a Diverse Group of Independent Learners
Funded Mar 27, 2018I'm so grateful for this generous gift! My students have never had regular computer access. Now I can expand my curriculum to include multimedia activities and assignments and help my students share their learning with the world. Giving students constant access to google classroom will also help my heterogeneous group work at their own pace.”

Funded Sep 11, 2016Thank you so much for your generous support of my classroom. The laptops arrived in early October and we have used them every day since!
My students from Germany, Egypt, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, each of whom are attending school in the U.S. for the first time, use the laptops to translate their ideas and understandings from their first language to English. Each ENL student (English as a New Language) has volunteered to share or present to their classmates since the laptops arrived. I'm sure that their confidence and comfort is directly connected to the use of these laptops.
Having these tools in the classroom has helped most of my ENL students emerge as conversational English speakers, only returning to their devices to look up specific vocabulary terms or to use pictures to illustrate their points.
The most exciting thing for my students is that laptops provide a virtually limitless resource with which they build a heterogeneous community. Voracious readers spend extra class time compiling a database of compelling nonfiction articles to recommend to their classmates. Emerging writers get inspiration by looking at examples of their classmates finished pieces, uploaded to our Google Drive with my feedback. Some of my students simply feel relief that they can type instead of hand write. For many, it gives them a heightened sense of pride in their hard work.
With your help, I am able to offer my students a virtually limitless resource, and that is invaluable.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Sehring
