Learning Math and Science through Art!
Funded Sep 30, 2014Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. We completed our first math/art project, an origami 3D Sierpinski triangle this week. The students loved this project! Before beginning to fold we explored the concept of fractals, how they are generated and how they appear in the natural world. Then we dove into the mathematics of the Sierpinski triangle. Students generated the equation that determined the number of tetrahedra pyramids needed to construct each iteration of the larger pyramid. This activity really helped students understand the concept of exponential growth and exponential equations. This project also had some unexpected design and engineering challenges that caused the students to think creatively about how strengthen the structure and work as a team problem solving.
We look forward to all of the rest of the fun math art we will create the rest of the year, thanks to you donation of art materials.”
With gratitude,
