  • "Molding" Our Futures With Clay!

    Funded Dec 31, 2016

First and foremost, thank you for your generous donations towards my classroom! The students utilized the clay to complete a project about African-American heroes. The students wrote an informational piece about their heroes for African-American History month. As a culminating activity, the students were able to utilize the clay to mold various symbols directly related African-American leaders/role models such as: musical notes for Langston Hughes, bus for Rosa Parks, a baseball for Jackie Robinson, an astronaut helmet for Mae Jameson, etc.

Many of the students in my class have never seen or utilized clay before. I teach in a low income community and we don't have access to unique art supplies such as clay and clay tools. Their faces lit up when they saw the clay, clay tools, and paint! My students are thrilled anytime they are able to use the clay.

We are currently using the clay to make clay ornaments and clay pots for Mother's Day! The students have planted their own flowers and will place the flowers in the claypots as a gift for their mothers. In addition, we are using the clay to make end of the year emblems. The students will have the opportunity to make an emblem of something that”

  • Keeping Materials Clean with a Laminating Machine!

    Funded Apr 8, 2016

    Dear Donors,

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation towards my classroom. Your donation has made such a wonderful difference in my classroom!

My students were ecstatic when I received a call from the office telling me that there was a large package waiting for me! My student's faces were in awe as I opened it up. They were also very curious as to what we can do with a laminating machine for our classroom. So far, we've used the laminating machine to laminate weekly multiplication fluency tests, multiplication charts, sight words, reading fluency passages, behavior charts, and mathematical practices! It also encourages my students to keep their materials clean and in proper shape! Not only do they have materials that last much longer, but it also teaches them a sense of responsibility!

Our school is currently facing a budget shortfall, so without your help, my students would never have had these vital resources. Once again, your donation has made and will continue to make a huge difference with my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Guirn

  • P.E. Supplies for Students with Special Needs!

    Funded Sep 24, 2015

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks for your generous gift to us. With your support, we will be able to turn my class into a more engaging place, where the students will be able to engage in some of their favorite sports and P.E. activities! It's amazing to see how the materials you've provided have impacted my classroom. It has taught my students an immense sense of pride, teamwork, sportsmanship, the ability to share, and communication/social skills. This funding has come right on time. Looking ahead at my lessons for the coming months, I will be able to use all of these materials in an exciting and appropriate way to fuel student learning and achievement. The students were engaged and enjoying the learning process. I have no doubt that the students will remember all they learned thanks to your donations.

Because of donors like you, my students will have brighter futures.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Guirn

  • Engaging Supplies for Students with Special Needs!

    Funded Feb 4, 2015

When the items were first delivered to the classroom, my students leaped with joy! The students were in awe when they saw the classroom set of markers. They were so excited to utilize the markers for classroom projects, artwork, and to express themselves creatively! The all-purpose easel was a hit! Every small group in the class couldn't wait to use it!

In math, my students are using the individual white boards to work out their problems, peer-mentor and encourage students to share/discuss their answers with their group. In writing, the students are utilizing the individual white boards to write their first drafts, make graphic organizers, jot down ideas and edit their work (to practice paragraph/sentence structure). We even use the whiteboards for social skills/team building activities during our "Funday Friday" period. The students play games such as: tic-tac-toe, hangman, word unscramble, etc. These activities help students learn how to take turns, be flexible, and good sportsmanship. The all-purpose easel has been an absolute life-saver! I teach a special education classroom of 22 students, so we have four small-groups running at the same time. My aides are able to utilize the easel when they review/guide small group instruction. My students also enjoy using the easel for spelling practice with magnetic letters, presentations, and to "teach" a lesson to their peers. The classroom set of markers have come in handy for Valentine's Day projects, St. Patrick's Day projects, Science/Social Sciences lessons, Spring projects, and to provide a different mode of instruction during small group lessons (i.e. underlining important terms, etc.).

Considering I am teaching a 4th-6th Special day class with 22 students, I want to ensure that I am meeting the needs of EVERY student in my class. Many of my students are visual/hands-on learners. Whenever they see that I bring out the whiteboards, the students light-up and are excited to complete their in-class assignments.

The materials that have donated to my class makes a world of a difference! It is wonderful to see how excited my students are about learning. Thank you for making this possible for my class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Guirn

My classroom consists of 22 students with a various disabilities (i.e. Autism, Specific Learning Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, Emotional Disturbance, and Mental Retardation). About 50% of my students are English Language Learners and my students come from an "at risk" neighborhood. The neighborhood in which my students come from have a lot of violence and exposure to drugs/gangs. I have three students who are currently living in foster care. All of my students receive free/reduced lunch. My students are AMAZING because despite their challenges at home or in the neighborhood-- they come to school EVERYDAY and ready to learn.
