  • Calming Area=Safe Space

    Funded Apr 24, 2023

Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! These materials will be perfect for creating a calming space in my classroom, especially for students with special needs! These items will also support their social emotional skills and coping mechanisms. We greatly appreciate your generosity and kindness! We can’t wait to use it in the class!”

  • "Carpet" Diem!

    Funded Nov 28, 2018

Wow! We cannot begin to express how amazing it is to have a comfortable carpet for my students to learn, read independently, and work collaboratively! My students were both ecstatic and absolutely shocked when they saw the carpet. It provides them with a safe and comfortable place to read library books and utilize technology (iPads, chrome books, listening centers, etc.)

I have students that work in small groups on the carpet, we utilize the games to run restorative justice circles, do social games, run listening centers, do read a-louds, and work independently. Thank you again for making our classroom a more welcoming environment!”

  • Friday Fun-Day Games for Students With Special Needs!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you again for providing our classroom with these fun games/activities. For a lot of my students, this is the first time they've played or seen some of these games. Since my students work hard on a weekly basis, I feel it is important to reward them with a "Friday Funday" where they get to play games and interact with their friends! More importantly, since my students have different needs, it is a perfect opportunity for them to learn social skills and sportsmanship! Thank you again for your generous contributions towards our classroom! We greatly appreciate it!”

  • Sitting Comfortably While We Read and Learn!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

    Wow, just wow!

Thank you for the couch. It has been an absolutely wonderful addition to the classroom. Now my students have a comfortable place to sit while they are in the classroom library or in the technology center. My students can utilize the couch for social skills activities, independent work or just to relax! The green bean bag pillows are a wonderful addition as well. This allows the students to rest their books on as they read. My students are now motivated to hang out in the classroom library! Thanks again for supporting our needs and helping me provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for my students.”

  • Character Building Using Engaging Books!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

The social skills books (and stuffed animals) that you've provided my classroom library has been a wonderful addition to our library. I have used the social skills books a lot during my first two weeks of the school year. Every day my students and I would do a lesson + read one of the books so they can learn about certain social skills. For example, my students learned and read about "taking responsibility". This helped them "take responsibility" at home, with their classwork, and their homework assignments. The stuffed animals are "reading buddies" in which the students use to read to during independent reading time. It also makes my classroom look so welcoming and comfortable! My students say their favorite place in the classroom is the library!”

  • We Are Learning to Be Cleaning Machines!

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

Thank you so much for ensuring my students have a clean classroom environment to learn! Since many of the students have obstacles outside of the school, it is vital for them to be able to come into a welcoming and clean classroom environment.

My students have been practicing cleanliness on a daily basis. In the classroom, we have classroom jobs in which all the students take part in cleaning at the end of the day or at the end of the week. The classroom jobs consist of : table wipers, floor sweepers, sink monitor, etc. The wipes have been used to clean classroom materials (i.e. tables, chairs, keyboards, iPads, etc.). The air fresheners freshen up the classroom. The hand-soap helps my students stay germ and illness free!

Again, thanks for allowing my students to learn to the best of their abilities!”

  • "Food" For Thought For Our Special Learners

    Funded Feb 26, 2018

You have no idea how much of a difference you've made in my student's lives. Once again, the students that I work with come from lower-income communities. 100% of my students receive free or reduced lunch and sometimes, the only meals they get are the ones from school. It is really difficult for my students to focus (especially during state testing) if they are hungry!

We've used the snacks and treats throughout the entire school year! We've taken the snacks with us on field-trips (as an extra special treat), I've utilized the treats as rewards when the students have completed their assignments and followed classroom rules/expectations, we've brought out the snacks for movie days/rainy days, and we've popped popcorn as a classroom project! I've also utilized the snacks as a health unit to teach my students all about nutrition and how nutritious treats can affect their bodies.

The snacks help my students concentrate on their school work and their tests. It helped with their focus and it set them up for success! Thanks again for all of the wonderful treats you've donated towards our classroom. With every bite, you've made an impact!”

  • STEM Learning Through Legos!

    Funded Dec 25, 2017

First and foremost, thank you again for your generous donation towards my classroom. The impact you are making is absolutely indescribable. Our school is located in the heart of South Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the students are exposed to violence, homelessness, and poverty. My school is a Title 1 school and all of the students receive free/reduced lunches. Unfortunately, technology may not always be accessible. Since my students have special needs, a lot of them require academic accommodations to ensure student success. Many of my students thrive off of use of technology.

We are still working on the STEM project. Thank you so much for providing us the necessary resources and materials to execute this project. It has been wonderful to see my student use their critical thinking skills to sketch, brainstorm, build and re-build their Lego Cars. We also used different recyclable resources (i.e. crates, cardboard boxes, etc.) to build ramps and tracks for their Lego race cars. The students worked in teams throughout the project which encouraged team work and social skills. Furthermore, the students used the iPads to record and take pictures of their creations. They were also able to use the iPads to time their cars and research ways to improve their creations.

Additionally, we utilize the Legos and iPads for Friday Funday! On Fridays, we bring out fun activities to reward the students for a week's worth of hard work. We also utilize the iPads for math and reading fluency apps to encourage multiplication/division fluency, decoding, blending, and reading comprehension!

Again, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Sharpening Our Minds! Supplies for Students With Special Needs

    Funded Dec 18, 2017

First and foremost, thank you again for your generous donation towards my classroom. The impact you are making is absolutely indescribable. Our school is located in the heart of South Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the students are exposed to violence, homelessness, and poverty. My school is a Title 1 school and all of the students receive free/reduced lunches. Additionally, my students thrive off of positive interactions, reinforcements and praise!

My students absolutely loved the sharpeners, treasure chest, twizzler and jolly rancher candies! My classroom has been without a sharpener for quite a few months now. You guys are truly a life savers! The treasure chest came with so many fun and exciting prizes that my students absolutely enjoyed! The treasure chest are filled with sunglasses, cars, flashlights, buildable airplanes, etc. They were all interactive and engaging for the kids. I also utilized the twizzler candy container to collect "Kindness Coupons". Whenever the students earn a "Kindness Coupon" they are entered into a raffle. At the end of the day, my assistants and I pick a ticket from the jar. The winner gets to shop in the treasure chest! Furthermore, the jolly ranchers are used for table points. My students sit in tables of 4 to 6 students. They work together for table points by following the classroom rules and expectations. At the end of the day, the table with the most points win jolly ranchers.

Again, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts!”

  • Be Their Hercules! Help My Students Learn about Greek Myths!

    Funded Jan 1, 2017

First and foremost, thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for supplying my class with books about Ancient Greece! My students worked on a unit about Ancient Greece that covered: Greek myths, Greek Gods, Olympics, architecture, Greek art and geography. The students made a folder to capture all of the wonderful work they produced about Ancient Greece. They were able to use the Ancient Greek God books to complete a research project about different gods such as: Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Athena, Pan, Hermes, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares and Dionysus. In addition, we used the books about Greek myths to complete various graphic organizers such as: character maps, sequencing maps, etc. We learned about different Greek myths about King Midas, Pandora's jar, Medusa, etc. It was also wonderful to see my students learn about new grade-level vocabulary.

Many of my students read in small cooperative groups, choral reads, read aloud story times, read scripts, and have discussions during our reading block. I have an instructional assistant in my class that also runs small-groups in which they practice their fluency, decoding, blending and segmentation skills.

The concept of Ancient Greece was absolutely exciting and new to my students. Before this unit, many of them didn't even know that a country such as Greece even existed! It is wonderful to open their eyes to new cultures, stories, lifestyles and a whole new world!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Guirn

The neighborhood in which my students come from have a lot of violence and exposure to drugs/gangs. I have three students who are currently living in foster care. All of my students receive free/reduced lunch. My students are AMAZING because despite their challenges at home or in the neighborhood-- they come to school EVERYDAY and ready to learn.
