  • Empowering 3rd Graders Through Books

    Funded Apr 1, 2024

I am so pleased to be able to share all of these books with my third graders, and get them started on OBOB 2024-25! Your generosity made that happen. Thank you for helping to instill a love of reading in these kids! It will make a difference in their lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havran

  • Math Enrichment for Third Graders

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

What a happy surprise to find my project was fully funded so quickly. I can't wait to share the news with my class and show them these resources, so they can start playing and improving their fluency in math. Thank you so very much for helping me make math fun!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havran

  • Snacks for Students with Limited Diets

    Funded Dec 5, 2017

Thank you so much! Having plenty of snacks on hand has helped my classroom immensely. Many of my students are extremely picky eaters, and will only eat a few foods. They must eat frequently throughout the day, not just at lunch. It has been a huge help to have a classroom pantry set up that I can go to whenever I need. Knowing I have the right kinds of foods available at all times alleviated a lot of anxiety. The anxious brain has difficulty learning. Not to mention that biting down on something crunchy is a very soothing sensory tool for many children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havran

  • Technology for Students with Autism

    Funded Nov 14, 2017

My students have been able to participate in academic work with more options for accommodations using technology. Text to speech helps them share their writing when they can't speak. It can change lives. They now have access to the learning apps available through my district, which helps them practice academic skills in a motivating way. I so appreciate your help giving these students the opportunity to engage in learning along with their peers . It has made a difference in their lives for the better.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havran

  • Books for 3rd Graders!

    Funded Aug 9, 2022

My students were so excited when they saw all the new books we received for our classroom. They immediately began snatching them up and going off to read! Having them on display in a special spot with the easels has really helped them gain interest. The next day, one girl told me the book she chose touched her so much she cried. Students have begun recommending favorite titles to each other. Another child said, "can I still read them even if I don't compete in OBOB?"

My very full teacher heart gave her a resounding, "yes!!" The chair bags are full of books that students are excited about reading. Thank you for helping create lifetime readers!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Havran

My third graders are curious, excited about learning, and so happy to be back to normal! This group was online for the crucial year of first grade. We are working hard to catch up on missed skills while trying to stay on track with all the important learning of third grade. I teach in a small elementary school in the heart of SE Portland. This is an area that is changing rapidly. We lost our Title 1 status before the pandemic, because we dipped right below the level of poverty that qualifies us for extra funds in Portland Public Schools. This hasn't been recalculated in 4 years because of everything that has happened. This is a wonderful community of involved families, but losing that funding impacts us, and needs are still there.
