  • Classroom Supplies to Study Morphemes

    Thank you for providing materials for students to create morpheme lexicons. I spent the summer reading up on morphology, and I'm very excited to help students increase their vocabulary. Research suggests that studying morphology can help students with their spelling, reading fluency, and pronunciation.

    I'm certain that students will be excited to create and decorate their own lexicon. They all love stickers, which will allow students to personalize their notebooks.

  • Making Mental Health a Priority

    Thank you for providing candy, snacks, stress balls, stickers, and more! I thought everyone's favorite thing would be the candy, but those stress balls are a hit with students and teachers. Research suggests that manipulating a stress ball helps with concentration and focus, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the stress balls help students.

    The candy and snacks are used during our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, and the stickers are available to students for decorating notebooks and waterbottles.

  • Books and Goodies to Celebrate Spring (Part 2)

    Thank you for supplying summer goodie bags for my students. Earlier this week I set up a "make your own goodie bag" station for students. This way they could choose which scented bookmark they liked the best and their favorite fidget keychain. High school students are no different from elementary students in this regard. They LOVE scratch and sniff ANYTHING, and the fidget keychains were a huge success. One of the hidden benefits of letting students pack their own goodie bags is that they had the fidget keychain to play with for the rest of the week. I saw a few students playing with their new fidgets during final presentations. It's a great tool for energetic students who have to sit still during class.

    Any educator will tell you that snacks and treats are the way to all students' hearts. They love fruit snacks, and the cookies were a big hit as well. Thank you for giving my students one more smile before the end of the school year.”

  • Chinese New Year, Women's History, and Weaving for Others

    Thank you for these resources. This was such a fun project to introduce to students. Many of my students did not have much experience working with yarn; although, some remembered learning to "finger knit" when they were in middle school. We had some challeges and some successes, just like with any new task. I was impressed by the students' ability to persevere and also their ability to share resources and materials. It was a new way for students to think about Lunar New Year and about the impact women have made on this country.”

  • Student Council's Popcorn Fundraiser

    My classroom smells wonderful right now. I love how that yummy popcorn smell lingers in the room after one of our popcorn sales. Because we ran out of popcorn kernels and were dangerously low on oil, we had to cancel our sales until these supplies arrived. This afternoon was our first sale since receiving the materials, and it was wonderful - filled with socializing, laughing, and popcorn.

  • Snacks and Treats to Build Relationships

    The snacks have been a success! I have been able to distribute them to whole classes as they work independently. I've noticed that having a snack helps students to focus and complete their work efficiently. As recently as this morning, I've been able to provide snacks to individual students who have missed the school breakfast. Missing breakfast makes for a long morning, especially since students may have to wait until 12:30 for lunch. Many students have told me, "You got the GOOD fruit snacks!" This is a fan favorite, and their reaction always makes me laugh.

  • Identifying False Information

    I have heard nothing but praise from my students regarding this book. We recently held a Socratic seminar on the first section. What surprised me is that almost every student had a different favorite chapter. Izzy liked Chapter 2 about Theodora and Justinian, and she called Procopius a "fake friend." Yolimar liked the chapter about the French monarchy because she likes "family drama," and she was able to connect this chapter to real life. Another student shared that Chapter 7 was her favorite because the information built upon what she already knew about the Nazi regime and she really likes history. Other students shared some insightful responses. Chris said, "Fake news impacts history and how we see people," and Dominick was able to make a connection between the chapter on yellow journalism and how entrepreneurs might use fake news to grow their businesses.

    I am very excited to continue reading this book with my students and continuing the fight against fake news.”

  • A Welcoming Classroom

    Thank you for providing positive, uplifting decor for my classroom. The day after I hung the "Think Positive" banner, I got many compliments from students and teachers. It's the first thing anyone sees when they walk into my classroom. It may seem hackneyed, but I truly believe this message. If we want to make change, we have to start with our mindset. And it's no surprise that the twinkling fairy lights are a big hit with students. I didn't realize that they would cover the entire wall - floor to ceiling.! The pictures just don't do them justice. They really give the classroom that "little something."

    Thank you for helping me spread positivity in my classroom and in my high school. I'm certain that these new decor items make my classroom a warmer and more inviting space for students.”
