Technology and Literacy = Fun!
Funded Oct 13, 2015I am beyond grateful for the generous donation made to my class this year. I was so happy to read my email that my project was funded by Chevron. The benefits of having more technology in my classroom has been wonderful. My students benefit tremendously from it!
This year I have students who do not have access to a computer at home. At home computer assignments are becoming more prevalent, especially as the students get older. Students in my class that have siblings are unable to access their home computer due to the amount of children in the household and the requirements from school such as iReady, code.org, Reading Plus, Ticket to Read etc. Having more computers in the classroom allows more to be on at one time and helps me reach my small group goals in the classroom, and I can make sure all students are reaching the required time for iReady or Ticket to Read. I am able to sit with a group of students and let the others go on the computer and then I can switch my groups. My scores for reading are higher than ever.
I also use the Hot Dot pens during my small group instruction and the kids love them. The pens light up and make noise whenever the students get a question correct. They get very excited to use them. It helps with their phonemic awareness which is essential for reading. I also ordered the addition and subtraction cards for Hot Dots so students can master their facts before they move on to the more difficult parts of math. The Hot Dot set makes it more fun and interactive than just paper and pencil worksheets.
Thank you again for your donation. My students and I are very appreciative. We are able to use these products on a daily basis, and I believe they helped make me a better teacher!”

Mrs. Burn's Kindergarten Jungle Class
Funded Oct 10, 2014When I told the great news to my students that our project was funded and we will get 4 new iPads and a brand new rug, they were so excited! Implementing the new technology into my everyday curriculum has been an exciting new way to practice learning new sight words, practice phonics, and read books! My goal is to have every student reading by the end of the year on their own, and with these devices, I am a step closer to achieving this goal. The students make sure we have center time everyday so they are able to use the iPads. Technology is so prevalent now, and there are several websites that require the use of personal electronic devices. By receiving these iPads, our class will be able to take full advantage of what our district has provided us with to enhance our learning environment. The rug is used on a daily basis, and because this is my first year in kindergarten, I did not have a new rug prior to this year. The children have story time, calendar, and morning meeting every day on this rug. It is large enough for all of the children to join together during these times. It is perfect! I am so very appreciative of your generous donation to our classroom. I was so thrilled when I received the email that our class project had been funded! It is because of you that teachers are able to go above and beyond. Thank you again for your generosity and support!”
