3D Printing Enrichment
Funded Nov 8, 2023Thanks to your generosity toward our classroom, my students have access to learning advanced technological skills they wouldn't otherwise get. My classroom consists of a computer lab in which students learn business applications, and practice career development. I had the idea to implement 3D printing into my classroom to engage students with something new. Most of my students come to my classroom with limited knowledge of computers. My goal is to open their eyes to the various uses of a computer. Also, I want them to be productive and creative. CAD (computer aided design) and 3D printing to me, is the perfect way to show them that computers have more purpose than just using them to play games or type documents.
Many of my students have really been curious about the new 3D printers. This is so exciting to me seeing them engaged in a new way. We have began learning a series of lessons on CAD, which teaches them to design objects on the computer. Once their ideas come to life they can then create a file called an .stl to send to the printer. We are still early in our learning and the excitement of being able to turn their ideas into a tangible printed object is still abundant. Because of your support, I believe the future is bright. Seeds are being planted for future engineers entering the career field!”

This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors & Young Sheldon on CBS and 14 other donors.Mr. Johnston's Super Scientific Exploration
Funded Oct 7, 2014I am very grateful as a teacher to be a recipient of this grant. Your generous donation allowed many students to have a more engaging learning experience in various subjects. I know I would not have been able to give my students the kind of lessons that I did without the support.
The students were thrilled to get to use and manipulate the resources I chose for class. I was excited to get these resources, but the students were very happy about it too. Science has definitely been much more fun and exciting to learn about because of you.
This project has really boosted my teaching and the students' learning by exciting my students about science. I love that they are always asking "what are we doing in science today, Mr. Johnston?". Your generosity has surely made a difference, and I am very much appreciative of the grant. I hope to be lucky enough to receive the grant year after year for as long as it is offered.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Johnston
