Diverse and Engaging New Books!
Funded Oct 13, 2022My students are so thankful for all of the books you donated to our school library. We built our collections of some of our students favorite characters, like the Food Group Series! We were also able to extend the series of some of our most popular collections. These additions have made our collection a more diverse and engaging one. The books don't stay on the shelves!
Providing high-interest books that students are excited to read is so important at the elementary age. One of my personal goals as an elementary librarian is to develop lifelong readers. Keeping kids enthusiastic about books helps to promote the love of reading.
Thank you for your continued support of our school and our library program!”

Funded Sep 21, 2022We are so thrilled to have a beautiful new carpet in our library. It is so bright and inviting and is the first thing you see when you walk into the room. The students were so excited when they arrived and sat on it for the first time. It is so soft and cozy to sit on when we read books together. They also love laying down and reading on the carpet! It is also a wonderful carpet because now there are spots for 24 students to sit safely and spaced out appropriately. Now I am able to have entire classes sit on the carpet instead of some students having to be outside the carpet boundaries. Thank you so much for helping to make my library such a bright, welcoming and cozy space!”

Funded Jan 21, 2022Thank you, thank you, thank you! My students were so thrilled to have so many new biographies added to our collection thanks to your very generous donation. Biographies are very popular in my school and my collection was rather outdated and needed some more diversity, people in STEM, and trending figures added.
I now have a collection that contains important people from our past and current events such as Malala Yousafzai, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Maya Angelou and Jane Goodall to name a few. I want to inspire students and remind them that anything is possible and they should believe in the power of their dreams.
These books have been flying off my library shelves since they have arrived. We are so appreciative of your kindness and please know that children will be enjoying these books for many years to come.”

Funded May 25, 2021Thank you so much for your contribution to our kindness garden. As a library and makerspace teacher we do all sorts of design, building and engineering projects in my classroom. During COVID I was doing to some research to brainstorm some new makerspace project ideas and I discovered something called "compassionate making." The idea behind compassionate making is to have the making be derived from the idea of giving and/or spreading kindness and empathy. Kindness rocks were one of the ideas that I discovered and I loved it and I knew the kids would too and I was right.
With your support my 3-5 grade students have made these stunning kindness rocks. Now that I've worked out the kinks of running the project the first time, I plan to complete the project with K-2 after the new year. I truly was blown away by the time, effort and sentiments expressed in these rocks. They truly were a labor of love.
In the spring the students and I plan to approach the principal with some suggestions of where we can create our kindness garden outside of the building. We want to place it somewhere where it will welcome guests to our school and brighten someone's day. We will have a special sign that says, "Take one, share one, leave one.." so we can spread our joy and kindness across our community.
This project was a huge success and I am so proud of my students' work. I thank you for your generous donation, without which I would otherwise not have been able to make this project happen. Happy Thanksgiving!”

Great Graphic Reads!
Funded Nov 22, 2019I am so incredibly thankful for the generosity you have shared with my students. Macdonough students absolutely love graphic novels. They fly off the shelf as soon as they are returned. Graphic novels are a great genre to hook reluctant readers and get them excited about books. Many of the graphic novels in our collection do just that. Students read the first book in the series and they don't stop until they have finished the whole series. This allows for great progress to be made in students' reading skills without them even realizing what is happening!! I appreciate you giving to our students and helping to maintain and grow their excitement for reading! The whole Macdonough community thanks you!”

Great Graphic Reads!
Funded Sep 13, 2019I would like to extend my gratitude for your generous donation to Macdonough School. My students absolutely love graphic novels and they circulate in my library daily. Many of the copies I have are very worn, and due to an unexpected flood over summer break last year, we were without copies of many other favorites. Having all these beautiful new books in our library is so exciting for our students.
Many of my students do not have books of their own at home. Because of this, it is so important for me to provide high interest books that students are willing to read so that they continue to build their fluency and comprehension skills. Graphic novels are super popular with this age group and because of your kindness I am able to get more books into the hands of more young readers.
Many blessings this holiday season. We are grateful for your generosity.”

Funded May 23, 2019Thank you so very much for the new animal books! The most popular nonfiction books that our checked out in our school library far and away is the animal books. Our animal collection before the addition of these fabulous books was very outdated and there weren't very many to choose from. Kids were very disappointed when they were asking for specific animals that we had no books for.
In 1st grade, students complete an animal project where they learn to research and take notes on an animal to complete a class book on different animals. Last year there were many popular choices that I did not have any books for. Students often had to be ok with their second, third or even forth choices of an animal.
Now that we have all of these beautiful new books students are learning about all sorts of animals that they couldn't before like geckos, sloths, polar bears and pandas! The new books are colorful, inviting and informative. They have beautiful illustrations that the students love to look at.
I am so appreciative of your generous donation. You have made our school library an even more wonderful place with these wonderful animal books.”

Funded May 23, 2019Every year my 4th grade students come into the library to gather resources for their biography projects. They have their top 3 choices and many of them included women in Science and current people in technology and sports. Much to their dismay, our library did not have many of the people they wanted to research.
Getting these new books have brought my 4th graders (and many other grades) so much excitement. The "Who Was" series has been flying off the shelf!
My school is extremely diverse and I love that I know have famous athletes, scientists, inventors and historical figures from diverse backgrounds. It helps show children that anything is possible and if they dream it and work hard, you can do it!
Thank you so much!!”
