I teach third grade in a small school in a wonderful, close-knit community. We are a Title I school, but our school receives many donations from parents to subsidize programs that have been cut over the last few years. Although we are blessed to have computer lab resources, they are centrally located and shared across all teachers. My students love it when we can check out the laptops for use in the classroom. Yet, we only get a small amount of time; once a week at most. I would love to be able to maximize the learning potential that computer-based resources allow and I could do this if we had a set of iPads in our classroom.
This year's class of third graders is especially creative and expressive. It's already clear that they take pride and interest in obtaining knowledge and sharing what they have learned through innovative approach. They are artistic, spirited, and enjoy a hands-on approach. My third graders would be appreciative and well-deserved recipients of classroom iPads.
