Groovy Graphic Novels!
Funded Aug 10, 2021As a teacher, one of the most rewarding moments to witness is when a child falls in love with a book. I want to tell you about one student in particular. This student is obsessed with the Dog Man graphic novels and when the books arrived he jumped up and down and cheered. He read the entire series in the span of a few weeks and absolutely fell in love with the characters. He even memorized the titles of the books. A moment like this shows the true importance of reading. I cannot thank you enough for your support of my students. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

Funded Aug 13, 2019Words cannot truly express how thankful I am for your donation to my classroom library. I work with students who are reading 2 years or more below grade level. One of my goals as a teacher is to provide students with access to books to help them fall in love with reading. There is truly nothing better than seeing a child's excitement about a new book!
As an educator, I wholeheartedly believe that every single child deserves an equitable and excellent education. No child should ever be denied access to the materials that will help them thrive and succeed. I cannot how express how important books are to a child's success. Your donation ensures that my students get what they deserve - access to excellent books and resources. I also know that many of you have supported many of my projects over the years and for that I am so thankful. You've had a great impact on my career as a teacher.
The day the books came in was such a treat. There was a palpable buzz of excitement from students. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your care and concern about education fills me with great hope.”

Funded Jan 21, 2018Students have been enjoying the books you donated to our library. Because of your contribution, my 7th grade students were able to read over 10 million words in the month of March. To give you an idea, the average middle school student reads about 400,000 - 6,000 thousand words a year. Many over my students have individually read over a million words. Such an accomplishment would not be possible without your generous donations.
As you all know, one of the best part of reading is getting to travel to different world. My students have been exposed to so many different places, people, and times. Thank you so much for giving this to my students.
In addition to developing a love for reading, you are helping my students achieve academically. Studies show that students who are reading on or above grade level are more successful on state assessments and more prepared for the rigors of high school and college. Reading, quite literally, has the power to change students' lives. My students will be more prepared for high school and college because of you.
Thank you again for your generous contributions. My students and I truly appreciate it. It means so much that there are people who truly care about every child's education.”

Opening the Door to Reading
Funded May 8, 2017My class had several boxes of brand new books waiting for them the first day of school! It's hard to accurately describe their excitement. This year I am teaching 7th grade and have an all boys homeroom. I have never seen a group of boys more excited than when I opened those boxes. Immediately several chimed in, "Can I read this book?" "This looks awesome!" One of my most reluctant readers quietly asked me to borrow one of the new books. It made me incredibly happy to see their pure joy and excitement for reading.
I can't emphasize enough the importance of reading and how thankful I am to all of you for giving my students books. Giving children access to highly engaging texts at their levels is essential to reading growth and vocabulary development. We still live in a world where there are huge gaps in education. Unfortunately, not all students are given equal opportunities and some days as an educator I feel disheartened. The gaps are so wide and often times seem insurmountable. But then I get donations from all of you wonderful and kind donors and I am reminded that there are so many people committed to ensuring all children receive a high quality education. It starts with books.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. Because of you I have a constant flow of traffic in and out of my library with students devouring new books everyday.”

Mrs. Martens

Books for Deserving Students!
Funded Sep 15, 2014My students were so excited to receive the books! It was just like Christmas in my classroom. The day the books arrived, the students immediately started asking when we would begin to read the novel. It was such a joyous day in my classroom and I cannot thank you enough for your generous support. My students and I give you our heartfelt thanks.
My students and I are using the Lord of the Flies novel currently in class. Each day, students have the opportunity to read, answer comprehension questions, and write short reflections about the novel. They could not do this without the actual text. Students are engaged in the story and often times want to keep reading once the class period ends! They are hooked into the story and it is so wonderful to see as their teacher.
This project has boosted my students' learning because they are given access to a class novel! Books are hard to come by in my school, especially whole class sets, and these books are a tremendous help. Not only do they allow students to acquire a love of reading and storytelling, they also allow students to read a grade level text. This is a challenge for some students and a definite need for high school preparation. By having access to a great book, my students are better prepared for high school. I feel like this novel is pushing them academically, which is exactly what they need. My students know the expectations are high in class, and having this novel has set the bar even higher. The novel is also helping my students learn more academic vocabulary and practice reading fluency.
I cannot thank you enough for your support of my classroom. I can thank you over and over and it doesn't do it justice. You all have provided my students with an opportunity they otherwise wouldn't have. I think one of my students said it best when she wrote in a thank you letter that our donors have kind hearts and she too hopes to one day have a kind heart like them. Thank you again.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Martens
