  • Drum Please!

    Funded Aug 2, 2021

We were so excited to open this new drum today! Thank you so much for your donation and the support you've given our Music Class. We're starting our World Drumming Unit and now have enough drums for everyone in each class to play their own drum. With Covid rules this drum now makes it possible for us to play and learn together. We especially appreciate your donation because this drum is of such high quality. It'll last for many, many, many years! Drumming together gives classes a sense of community. Every student, no matter their primary language or special needs, can equally participate.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Candland

  • Xylophone Needed!

    Funded Sep 25, 2021

Thank you so much for funding a new metalaphone for our music classroom. My students are excited to start our xylophone unit in Novemeber, and now we have enough instruments for everyone to play their very own. Not being able to share instruments during a class period won't be a problem with this new xylophone having arrived!

Thank you for your support, music class provides an outlet for kids and their creativity and xylophones are so accessible for all students. Playing together as a group unifies classes and is a fun break in their day.”

  • Poppin and Reading in Music Class

    Funded Sep 25, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to our book and manipulative project! I've noticed this year that students have different needs than other years after being out of school for so long and these materials are helping me reach their needs. My youngest students, in Kindergarten and first grade, have enjoyed and benefited from the new books "Dump Truck Disco" and "Dinosaur Rap". We've had so much fun moving and grooving to these books! My second and third graders have loved "My Family Plays Music" and "Peace Train", these books have opened the door for meaningful discussions and connections.

The pop-it manipulatives are already a favorite and the first and second graders beg to use them every class. I wrote a quarter note, pair of eighth notes, or a quarter rest on each pop. We have several games we play with these to reinforce rhythm reading, dictation, and note identification - all while having fun and meeting sensory needs.

Thank you so much for donating, it means the world to us!”

  • Sing A Story In Music Class!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for funding my project "Sing a Story in Music Class!" I unboxed our new books today during a zoom class and the kids were so excited! Most of these are hard back books so they'll last for many, many years.

These books will enhance my virtual lessons in a few ways. Some are song stories - I love singing books to them! Some are about instruments and musicians, it's a fun way to relate to the world and learn about other people and places. And some books will be used to explore homemade instruments and movement!

Thank you for supporting our music program! These new books have sparked some great teaching plans!”

  • Xylophone Bass Bar Needed!

    Funded Dec 20, 2020

Thank you so much for donating towards our new Bass Bar F Note for our Music classroom! I showed the kids on Zoom our new instrument and they are more excited than ever to return next week! This instrument makes it possible for us to learn the piece "Banuwa" from Africa. My students have diverse backgrounds and we've been collecting the instruments needed to play this song for a few years. We're now ready! This instrument is especially great for my students with coordination difficulties. They can fully participate and just love playing a big xylophone bar.”

  • Books in Music Class...Yes Please!

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Thank you so much for supporting our music program at Garfield Elementary School! It was so wonderful to receive new books to use in our virtual, Zoom music classes. My students absolutely loved how interactive the book "Rhythm Rescue" was and enjoyed their assignment to write their own rhythms and tell me what super power it enabled. I am appreciative for the many musical stories from other cultures. It's so important for my students to feel represented in the material I share and to identify with the characters and settings. Thank you for helping me do my difficult job even better this year.”

  • Creative Composing

    Funded Jul 4, 2020

Thank you so much for your donation to our music classroom! As we've started the year back up students have been so excited to see these new instruments! It's been a great discussion starter to talk about what they think will happen with the sound of these Otamatones - and lends itself to talking about how stringed instrument work since there's similarities with how a string works on a violin neck.

My students have been engaged in these lessons as we've branched out and connected with Japanese pop culture, instruments, and history. We've only just started but participation is up and I'm excited to continue these lessons. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Candland

  • Help Us Rock Online Learning!

    Funded Jul 29, 2020

Thank you again so very much for donating to my music classroom! As school starts this Teachers Pay Teachers gift card has provided me with the ability to purchase digital lesson material and activities for my students to engage with and enjoy during remote learning.

I've already had students comment about the new digital activities! They are excited to see what I post next - some favorite purchases so far have been interactive rhythm games and name that instrument.

I'm now really looking forward to this school year! I've also used the Teacher Pay Teachers gift card to purchase a unit about Musicians! My 5th graders will really enjoy learning about some of the "greats" such as: Dizzy Gillespie • Duke Ellington • John Williams • Stevie Wonder • Elvis Presley • Michael Jackson • Wynton Marsalis • Whitney Houston • John Phillip Sousa • Frank Sinatra • Paul McCartney • Natalie Cole • Nat King Cole • Carole King• Aretha Franklin • Dolly Parton • Lin-Manuel Miranda. It'll be awesome!”

  • Give me an A! Bass Xylophone Bar Please

    Funded Apr 3, 2020

Thank you so much for supporting and funding this new instrument! This bass xylophone bar is such a valuable addition to our xylophone collection. The bass bar provides a much needed bass line, in class students learn about ostinatos and having this new "A" allows us to create even more patterns! This "A" bass bar was also so needed because it allows students with motor limitations to fully participate in my music classes. Holding just one, large mallet and having just one large bar to strike is so much easier for my resource students. They can be successful, contribute to the musical piece, and feel proud of their musicality.”

  • Musical Stories For Summer

    Funded May 29, 2020

Thank you for your donation towards our music library! I have recorded myself reading each one of these books and have uploaded them each day this summer. My students are loving the connection it brings while we're away and I love knowing they have something to look forward to each day. I especially love the books highlighting cultures and people from all around the world, just yesterday the story of Billie Holiday posted. Students have really enjoyed the books with sound and these will make fantastic lessons for our virtual learning in the fall. Thank you so much for helping add so many beautiful books to our music room library!”

These 18 Ukuleles (and bags for protection) will be strummed by over 220 students a year! I would love for my 3rd through 5th graders to take what they've learned about string instruments, chords, rhythms, and perseverance and transfer that learning onto the ukulele! These kids are from families which can't afford instruments or lessons, so any opportunity they have with instruments in my classroom is a valued one. Our classroom already has several coveted ukuleles. I'd love to make them available to all students in a class. My music students look forward to music class knowing I have special things in store for them. This year students will learn C Major, F Major, G7, and A minor chords. We'll learn different strumming patterns and the parts of the ukulele. With the 5th graders, we'll work on ear training as I teach them to tune their own instrument. Such a small investment will go such a long ways for many years to come and for so many students. Thank you for considering our musical corner of the world!
