Reading Rocks!
Funded Jun 28, 2020Thank you so much for your generosity. 2020 had been such a difficult year in education for my students. Your generous donation has made my entire class smile.
I love being a teacher but my dream job is to be able to read to children all day. The books I chose were so exciting to the students. They truly enjoy being read to and connecting text to their own experiences. One of their favorite books is "The Day the Crayons Quit." In this story a child's crayons decide that they are unhappy and write letters to let him know why. The kids howled when we got to the peach crayon, which is naked! The child peeled the paper off of the crayon so it is hiding in the box. So clever!
During read alouds I ask a lot of probing questions, we use non verbal signals to check for understanding, we laugh, we ask a lot of questions, and truly enjoy each book.
The read aloud is typically followed by a writing assignment where the students sometimes have to write about their favorite part of the story, make an alternate ending, or retell the story.
There is lots of coloring and my students love to share!
I am so thankful for people like you who took the time to donate your hard earned money to a complete stranger.”

Funded Oct 30, 2019Thank you so much for your generosity. It is greatly appreciated.
I work for a title 1 school where many of my students do not have access to technology other than their parent's cell phone in the home. With these tablets my students have been eager to work hard on Imagine Learning to achieve and be recognized for their growth. They are able to easily log on to the app without interrupting me working with my small groups.
They appreciate the responsibility of caring for the tablets and making sure they are charged daily.
The tablets were a big hit during the "Hour of Code" initiative. An hour of code was a pledge by school to commit to letting students learn engage in computer science. The students were encouraged to try coding through a website called Code.org. They loved it!”

Funded Oct 24, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity. My students and I are so grateful. Reading is truly the foundation of learning and with these new workstations, my students are able to practice and develop their reading skills. They truly enjoy the bright colors and stories that they are learning about. In addition most of them have gone on to research some of the informational text subjects further because they sparked an interest in a workstation. We have compared frogs and toads, as well as moths and butterflies. Even the teacher is learning!
The math workstations have also been thoroughly enjoyed. I can see the lightbulb coming on in my students and it is due, in great part, to having access to our new and exciting materials!”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you for your awesomely generous donation!
I teach at a school where over 90% of the students are living in poverty. Their parents cannot always bring them to school. Our school has become a sanctuary of stability, safety, and learning. The technology that you funded for my classroom has been an accidental attendance incentive. My students are excited to take ownership of their learning. The iPad allows them to be creative. We have been using code.org and tynker to try our hands at coding. While my students are engaged they have also become autonomous. This allows me to get extra time with the students who need more practice. It also reduces the amount of interruptions from students.
What I love about my class since receiving the iPad, is the excitement and care that they are showing when using it. We had a long conversation about expectations for technology use. I have a few students who have stepped up to be technology managers. They give up some of their tech time to help others when they get stuck. They ensure that everyone is on task or logged in before they start their tech time. They have really taken ownership of the great responsibility it takes in dealing with expensive equipment.
I have both kindergarten and first grade students in my classroom. My kindergarten students sometimes seem intimidated by their first grade peers. However, one of my kindergarten students, Norris, has his own tablet. He has been instrumental in helping the other kinder friends log on as well as do troubleshooting.
Your generosity is out of this world! My students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts!”

Funded Nov 10, 2017Thank you for your generosity.
Let me first say that I am an advocate for technology in the classroom for elementary school. Technology can be used to extend lessons and deepen student understanding and engagement. The chrome books so generously donated to my classroom have done just that. My students have been able to see their writing come alive. They have been able to narrate stories, conduct research, and create their own videos to demonstrate their learning. The ownership that they have taken over their learning is inspiring. The probing questions that they usually have upon learning new material are being used to conduct research. Keep in mind these are 6 and 7-year old kids!
My students are especially excited for Story Jumper. They are able to create their own stories. They can even narrate their stories. Story jumper allows the students' work to be made into real books. My goal as a parting gift to my students, is to have their stories printed. It is amazing to see the students applying their learning to writing.
I have a student who is new to our school this year. He was very quiet and reserved for the first few months of school. Creating stories has allowed him to feel more comfortable. He has become the expert on showing other students how to use some of the functions of story jumper. So far, he has created two stories.
Your donation has touched so many. It has inspired a new love of writing within my students. Thank you again for blessing us with this generous donation!”
