My students come from diverse backgrounds; 34% of the students at our school receive free and reduced-price lunch. In my classroom, 50% of the students receive free and reduced-price lunch.
Students usually don't have all the materials they need to begin the year, or technology at home, while I provide the little I have to help my students. My students come from divorced families, single-parent homes, parents that are working two jobs just to make ends meet, and many are in the military.
Additionally, it is difficult for parents to attend meetings because of their schedules, so the only place their child would get the best education is at school. With only a 25 year-old chalkboard to teach with, my resources are limited and lack the inclusive practices and technology needed to support diverse 21st Century learners.
