  • Little Things That Help Students Learn!

    Funded Sep 24, 2024

Your generous donation has really made a difference in my classroom! I really feel like the students feel cared for and loved because of your gift. I in turn also feel the love and nurturing aspect of your gift. I guess what I mean is that your gift has really affected the whole vibe and feel of my classroom. Let me explain why:

When a student had wet feet because they stepped in a puddle at recess..... I helped them with a soft, dry pair of new socks. When a student cut their finger on a piece of paper or scraped their knee at recess ....I helped bring a smile to their face as I gave them a yellow bandaid or better yet a UNICORN bandaid! When Winter started I explained to the class how they needed to take care of their bodies and use chapstick on their lips or lotion on their hands to protect their skin.... a few kids would come to me and tell me their lips hurt but they did not have chapstick. I made them smile when I gave them their very OWN HOT COCOA flavored chapstick! When the class groaned because we had yet another Math quiz they cheered when they knew they could have a Mint to eat while they worked! When a student was hungry or could not focus, I was able to give them a snack to munch on to get them back on track!

Thank you for helping me show my class how much they are loved which in turn gets them to try their best because their needs are met just a little bit more.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Chapter Books and Recess Games for Third Graders

    Funded Sep 18, 2023

My 3rd grade class is thoroughly enjoying all of the new items that you donated to us! When the students discovered the new chapter books they flew off the shelves into their book bags. The students are especially enjoying the graphic novels about sports! One student even discovered a new favorite series of books! Now we have a request for more in our next project!

Many of my students do not have access to books at home or some of them are still finding out what books they really love so having more books for them to look and read freely is amazing for them.

The class also enjoys staying in for indoor recess these last few cold winter days now that they have new games to play. I love watching the students play UNO together. We have been comparing the game UNO and passing out cards to learning about Division during our Math lessons.”

  • Morning Tubs

    Funded Dec 15, 2022

Thank you so very, very much for your generous donation to my 1st grade class! The students cheered for joy when we received the new morning tubs! Each morning students are excited to come to class to see what tub of toys they get to play with! I have even assigned a student to help me make sure that the tubs get rotated everyday!

The hamburger toys are always a hit! Everyday they are serving up different types of burgers! They especially like to try and serve me a burger with lettuce! I always tell them no thank you to the lettuce because it gets soggy! They try and fool me and say, "No, it is a pickle not lettuce!" Some students try and make the tallest burger or a burger with no meat.

Each toy set gives them endless possibilities of things to create. From building 2 or 3 story houses, rockets, little creatures they have created, and elaborate bracelets and necklaces my first graders have and continues to thoroughly enjoy your generous donation! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!”

  • Morning Tubs and Celebrating Each Student Project

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for your donation! Because of YOU my students get to play with fun interactive morning tubs each morning when they come in to the classroom! The students look forward to the tubs EVERY DAY! When they first saw them they barely would hang their backpacks up because they were so excited to play! Now they know that every day they get to play and so they are more patient if they do not get a preferred tub of toys.

My class squealed for joy when they learned that they were able to create a little person that looked just like them for our get to know me project that we did in the first month of First Grade. With the leftover materials I donated them to our Play and Learn class. This class is a group of siblings that are not quite old enough to be in Kindergarten.

My next step for my morning tubs is to eventually have more items that I can use to switch out the tubs to make them more interesting and fun by having choices!”

  • Students Need An Easel to Make Learning More Accessible

    Funded Oct 23, 2020

I want to thank each and everyone of you for your generous donation to my project!

We use the Easel everyday in class. I love that the kids are able to see me write on the Whiteboard. It is so much easier than holding up the tiny whiteboard that I have been using! Sometimes I tried using a digital whiteboard but that does not work well because I cannot see the students' faces. I also am planning to use the rings on the top of the whiteboard to hold my pocket charts and chart paper. I am still trying to figure out the perfect way to use the rings as they slip off of the easel.

I can organize my materials so that they are not just sitting all over the floor. Before they were just sitting all over my table.

I am planning on using my ten frames to help students in math. Just recently I drew a picture with ten frames and remembered that I can now use my magnetic ten frames! I also will use the 100s grid numbers to help my students warm up with counting to 120 everyday!

Thank you for helping me make Distance Learning a more rewarding experience for my students and me!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Reading with Technology

    Funded Oct 5, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation to my First Grade classroom. The Nano ipods and books have helped my classroom immensely. My students cheer on the days that they are able to use the ipods in the classroom during reading groups.

The technology has been helping the students become fluent readers. It is important for children to hear a fluent reader read. It is important to have engaging literature for students to hear. By having ipods, kids are able to listen to a fluent reader. This is especially helpful for my English Language Learners who do not have a fluent reader reading to them in English at home.

The kids think the ipods are fun because they are like little ipads. It is giving them new skills in technology that will help them in their lives. My class is naturally good at using the devices so that has made it a more enjoyable experience.

It has been so awesome that every single child is engaged when using them. I can often hear them laughing, singing, and reading a long with their books. It gives my struggling readers a chance to read a more interesting book.

Thank you so much. Your donation has made a major impact in my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

  • Reading with Technology

    Funded Nov 19, 2015

Thank you so much for your donation of Nano Ipods to my classroom!

I will use them to enhance my Daily Small Reading Groups. I have small groups of students who rotate through different reading stations. The students will be able to use the Nano Ipods to listen to books that I have downloaded. (I have a few books on CD that I have bought to use just for this purpose.) This way the students are able to listen to a fluent reader everyday. Most students in my population do not listen to a fluent reader, reading stories to them that often. Studies show that the more a student hears fluent reading the better reader they will become.

Currently I have four rotations in my reading groups. One is word work where students can apply a new reading phonics skill they have learned. This is an independent station for them to do quietly. The activities range from making words to walking about the room and finding words that fit a phonics skill. The second is also an independent group, called Read to Self, where students each have a book bag which is filled with books at their level. They are to read independently. The other two groups are working with a teacher on reading books and activities. I am planning to start a new independent group called Listen to Reading with the Ipods. Students will be able to listen to books on the Ipods while reading books.

My class is very excited to try the Ipods. I still have to purchase cases for the Ipods and headphones. Once I do it will give them a new founded excitement for Reading Groups. Everyday I have one little girl named, Lillyann who asks me if we will do the "walk around and read thing". I think the part of the Ipods that is most exciting to the kids is the fact that they are technology. Many kids talk about Ipads and tablets in the room and this is very similar to that. I think this generation knows so much more about technology and it is easily learned and embraced by children. I think the Ipods will easily fit into my Kindergarten class. It will give them a new love for Reading Groups as they are excited to try the new technology.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kelly

My class comes from a very diverse backgrounds and many are from low income poverty homes. Our school is 85% free and reduced price lunch. Many students have not had school experience prior to kindergarten. Many come to school for the first time without any English skills. For many the school day is very important, as it is the only time for them to practice their English speaking, writing, and reading skills. It is important for all children to be read to fluently to develop a love and understanding of reading. When this happens a lifelong reader is born. It is my goal for all my students to become lifelong readers.
