Proficiency in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is necessary for students to be successful in their future careers. Yet, currently my students' exposure to technology consists of shared access to a single student computer that is older than they are and unusably slow. My mathematicians attend a large, public elementary school in a big Texas city. Because our district does not provide transportation to students living within two miles of school, many of my fourth grade students walk to and from school including crossing major intersections. My students come from a variety of backgrounds and educational experiences. However, the vast majority of them are at least one and a half years behind in math proficiency.
