My students are recent arrivals to the US, coming from a wide variety of countries, including Haiti, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Colombia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, and Congo. Many have fled war, gang violence, and/or poverty and have arrived to the US seeking safety and educational opportunities. They overcame unimaginable obstacles to make it here, and now face the challenge of learning a new language, educational system, and culture. These teens are determined to achieve lofty goals here in the US, but of course their first step is to learn English.

About my class
