Ms. A's Students Need To Get Techy!
Funded Aug 25, 2016First and foremost, thank you thank you all for your generosity. I am so grateful and humbled that you all believe in not only me but also in my students.
This new technology has helped my students in so many ways already this school year. Using our brand new computer, my students have been able to access reading websites and games that help to make learning to read more engaging and motivating. They have also been able to create their own picture books using the apple author application that has made writing fun! In addition, I have been able to create picture books that are age-appropriate for my lower leveled readers. Rather than having these students read books with cartoons and messages that are too simplistic, I am able to create books with real life pictures and books about topics that are of interest to them. Finally, this computer has been used to help my students who struggle with handwriting learn to type (a very important skill that sadly, my school is unable to teach due to a lack of resources). For these many reasons, and more, we are so grateful for this new technology in speech therapy.
My students love their new computer!”

Funded Apr 1, 2015Thank you all so much for the supplies! My students have benefited greatly from the additional resources. The play-doh and doll house are particular favorites among my students and they have loved learning and playing with their new materials.
Throughout the school year, I have used these play materials to target many speech and language goals. Specifically, we have worked on vocabulary skills like categorizing with the doll house, receptive language skills like following directions with the new cars and toy people, expressive language skills like describing with the play-doh and many many others. It is amazing what children can do with toys! I have heard things like "whoa, this is fun!" to "this is my favorite!" from my students whilst using these resources.
Overall, these materials have helped my students not only continue to learn in speech and language therapy, but they have also helped my students to remain excited and motivated within speech sessions. Even when working on more academic tasks, these materials have become consistent motivators for my students. When used as a "reward," these materials have enabled my students to work towards a tangible goal. With the beginning of a new school year, I am so excited to see what other ways I will be able to use these new materials!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hochman
