  • We Don't Fear Shakespeare

    Funded Jan 20, 2023

Do you know how many groans I heard when I said we would be reading Shakespeare? It was almost laughable! My students ended up enjoying reading Shakespeare because of this project! They were very excited they could actually read and understand what was going on!

My students come from various backgrounds and many are limited on their experiences. As we read through the book (using the plain English side) we would also watch the play on YouTube that was done in Shakespeare's English. Students enjoyed getting to see a play, even though it was on the screen. Many said it wasn't as bad as they thought!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius

  • Make History Come to Life

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

My students thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. They were able to relate to the characters similar to their age and see how life was during the 1960s. They had also been learning about the Civil Rights Movement in their Social Studies class.

We listened to the book on audible.com, the students enjoyed listening to the reader do the different voices for each character. Through listening and following along, even my lower readers could enjoy this novel.

Through reading this novel we got to see how an event can impact or change a person's character. Many of my students could relate.”

  • Owl Pellet Lab

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

I want to thank you so much for donating to our General Science class at Genesis Youth Center. Students had spent the month learning about food webs and ecosystems. To finish off our unit we had an owl come visit from the WVDNR. They discussed about the owls eating habits and ecosystem. When the presentation was over we followed up with our owl pellet lab! The students were amazed!

Do to most of my students being in alternative learning centers or in a home bound situation, many of them have never completed a hands on lab. This was an experience they will not forget!”

  • Hungry for Hunger Games

    Funded May 9, 2023

My Students greatly enjoyed reading this novel! They loved to see how the book varied from the movie! We discussed how they could relate to specific characters and how some of the events could be related to their lives.

Many of my students have never had the opportunity to read a brand new book! To know that you provided them that experience is priceless. Many of them made comments about how the book looked and smelled! They took excellent care of each and every one.

Your generosity has impacted them in a way I cannot explain.”

  • Let’s Make Science Fun

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

Thank you so much for the materials. We have used them a lot for our weekly STEAM projects. Students have made lava lamps, made mixtures, and even made slime. They love learning from doing.

Students were so appreciative of receiving brand new materials. They helped unpack boxes and asked what we were going to do with each item.

We will continue using materials for various science projects and hands on activities. We are moving onto Life Science and will be hatching chicken eggs and growing plants! I am sure your materials will come in handy.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius

  • Learning From History

    Funded Nov 28, 2022

My students love to read this novel. They asked daily to read extra chapters and wanted to finish the book at quickly as possible. This book opened up a lot of discussions about the Holocaust and what impacts it had on society. My students could see how wrong it was for people to be treated so poorly based on their culture, religion, and physical appearance.

We read together daily, often stopping to discuss what was historically accurate and what was possibly not accurate. Students were full of questions and eager to learn more.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius

  • Current Events for Kids

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

My students have enjoyed reading the Upfront magazines each week. They have learned about current events across our nation and the world. It's has given us the opportunity to have some meaningful conversations about society and what impacts they could have.

We have read the magazines together and independently. We have also used the magazines in various projects such as vision boards and collages when we are done reading them.

All the students have enjoyed reading something different. They have liked reading about events that matter to them and their generation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius

  • Adding Art Into Our Curriculum

    Funded Sep 28, 2022

My students have enjoyed using the materials to create various art projects! We use them multiple times a week and they greatly appreciate using new materials.

So far, we have painted fall landscape pictures and Halloween pumpkins. They use the colored pencils daily for our Doodle Notes and anytime we are doing art projects. They are looking forward to painting for the winter holidays.

Many of my students express themselves through art, and use art to cope with their current circumstance. Just know that you are providing more than just classroom materials, you helped provide mental health tools too.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius

  • Let’s Read Fish in a Tree

    Funded Jul 14, 2022

My students have enjoyed reading this book. Many of them can relate to the little girl who is struggling in school. Most of my students feel they aren't smart and struggle with their learning differences. This book helps show them that they are smart in their own way. Just because you don't do things like everyone else doesn't make you less than.

It was awesome to hear them ask daily if we were going to get to read today! They enjoyed following the main characters story and seeing how it all worked out!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Brosius
