  • The Next Master Chef Needs a Uniform!

    My students level of professionalism has increased dramatically since putting on the chef coats for the first time. Previously, We only furnished them with aprons and the chef coats brought them to another level of seriousness of purpose. The students love wearing them and the interest it has seemed to spark in the post-high school world of culinary is transformative! The students reaction to getting the chef coats was priceless! They were so excited and like high school students do immediately starting taking selfies and sharing them with their friends! We are in the process of trying to open an on campus cafe and professionalism is a big topic of discussion. We appreciate the chef coats and the opportunity to treat our kitchen as a real work environment!”

    My students were thrilled to receive chef coats and uniforms as part of this grant. The level of professionalism increased dramatically. If you dress properly you will act properly never seemed more true than in this instance. The students take all their tasks more seriously and seem to have so much more pride in what they are taking part in. The quality of all aspects of the kitchen have improved. Professionalism, overall pride, quality of the food, care of the kitchen itself. This gift has been so impactful to my students!!”

    This project has increased the level of professionalism in our kitchen to a much higher degree. When dressed appropriately in true chef attire the students respond so well. They feel more professional, act more professional and seem to put extra effort into the tasks. The students were thrilled to have actual chef uniforms. Something as simple as chef uniforms has changed the entire tenor of the culinary program here. For teacher luncheons the students are so proud to look so professional and want to represent the school and uniform properly.

My students attend a large (almost 2000 students) extremely diverse high school. Our school truly is a melting pot of diversity from an ethnic standpoint and an economic standpoint. I believe my students do an amazing job of being open and accepting of people from all different cultures. Our school is consistently rated as a Title 1 school because of the low socio-economic status of the student body's parents/guardians. Academically the school is an Academy based school which focuses on giving our students real world experiences as well as increasing rigor. My students are part of the Business and Finance Academy within our school.
