  • Sensory Aids for Children of Autism

    Funded Dec 20, 2011

Thank you very much for the wonderful sensory materials for the children I serve who are on the autism spectrum. These quality materials have made providing a sensory diet program for these students much easier to execute.

The students love all of the balls, tactile, and visual materials. It is very interesting and fun to see each individual student gravitate toward the different sensory materials that best suit their needs. We use many of the materials not only as part of sensory diets, but as kinesthetic and tactile rewards after the students have completed a work cycle.

These quality materials have made it possible to increase the amount of work the students are putting forth and to keep the integrity of the program in tact.

Thank you again for you generosity and for you heart for children with special needs.”

  • Cozy Cube

    Funded May 21, 2010

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the Cozy Cube. It has made a tremendous difference for the students of autism on my caseload. Now when the children become overstimulated, they have a place to go to decompress. We have seen a decrease in negative behaviors upon the arrival of this wonderful addition to our classroom.

Students now recognize this a place they can ask to go to if they need some down time. The cube is another positive way for them to receive the pressure feedback often required by these students. This cube has also brought about the use of more language because we ask the students to use their words to ask to move to the cube.

We are ever so grateful and truly thankful for your generosity and the wonderful resource you have bestowed upon us. Thank you does not seem quite enough when you allow us to better a day of a child who is struggling to be understood. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Packwood

  • Sensory Textured Pillows

    Funded May 28, 2010

Thank you so much for your generosity and for caring so much about children of autism, who often are misunderstood. Your gift of the sensory pillows has allowed for these children to have another venue to learn to calm themselves when they become overstimulated.

Since receiving these wonderful pillows, we have seen an increase in self-calming and in the use of language because the students will use their words and ask for the pillows. It is intriguing and a great learning experience for me as their teacher to see what sensory pillow will calm them depending on the situation. This allowing me to better understand their mood and to assist in helping to identify triggers, which will aid in setting them up to self-calm before they reach the stage of frustration and over-stimulation.

Thank you so much for your caring heart and for the wonderful gift. We are blessed that people like you care about students and wish to help.”

  • Activity Table

    Funded Apr 24, 2010

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for the generous donation, which allowed for the purchase of the activity table. This table makes is possible for students to learn to work cooperatively, develop social skills, while playing educational games, and most of all the table provides a safe learning environment for students. The configuration of the table allows for me to get to each child without tripping over furniture. They are all within arms reach. The children are so proud the new table. They are telling everyone about the new table and how it helps them learn. This pride in a resource is allowing for teachable moments on how to care for and respect our belongings.

Thank you again for your kindness and caring for children. Through donors like you, we are able to provide needed resources to our children.”

  • Student Chairs

    Funded Jun 7, 2009

Thank you for the wonderful chairs for the students in my room. It has been such a joy to see them come in ready to work. There are no more issues with clothes being snagged, chairs breaking, or the children being uncomfortable sitting chairs that were too big for them. This has done a great deal in improving their work ethic and to build their stamina. They are so proud of new chairs that beautifully match our horseshoe table, which was also funded by wonderful donors, such as yourselves, through DonorsChoose. The children take great pride in treating our new furniture with respect. They are cautious to sit appropriately and to always push their chairs in when leaving the table, so others will not trip on the new chair. They do not want others to get hurt or for something to happen to the new chairs.

This wonderful gift fill a practical need and has aided in managing behavior at the same time. I did not realize the full impact of having to sit in an ill-fitting chair on the children's behavior, until the new appropriate sized chairs arrived. It means a great deal to us to have this gift and we are so appreciative of your generosity. Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Packwood

  • Horseshoe Shaped Table

    Funded Dec 31, 2008

Words alone cannot express my gratitude for the funding you provided for this horseshoe table. This table will make it not only safer for my students, but increase the productivity as well. This table will allow for me to get to all of my students in a small group setting in prompt and safe manner. Each of my students will be within arms reach. My students and I thank you very much for honoring our request and look forward to the arrival of our new table. We will enjoy it for years to come and will definitely send you some photos of us hard at work at our new table. Thank you again”
