Thank you so much for your donations. I means so much that you that you are willing to so selflessly give in order for these students to have a better learning experience. We are all so grateful to have someone like you to be a part of Providence Hall Junior High.”

  • Nature Photography Project

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

Students are loving being able to take pictures of their classwork. In a world of selfies and facebook, they love documenting their work through pictures.

Students are using the cameras in two main ways. The first is that they have been working on a portfolio this year using the program PowerPoint. Students create slides detailing certain concepts/principles that they have learned. Some of these slides are dedicated to projects and lab experiments that they have done and they having been taking pictures of those projects and using the cameras to upload their pictures to their portfolios. The second way that students are using these cameras is by taking pictures of various organisms that they see on their own time. They are submitting their best pictures if these organisms as an art project for their science class.

Student's learning has been boosted by allowing them to participate in science not only at school but at home with their pictures of organisms. This is showing them that they don't have to leave science at school and go home to pick up their video games once they go home, they can continue to enjoy the things they learn in class by going out and experiencing it in person. Students are also being exposed to a possible career in photography. Even if they have no interest in animals or science, some are very interested in photography and are gaining valuable experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Murry

Our school is a charter school, so we are able to create fun and changeling classes for our students such as Zoology and others. Our students are a little more well behaved because they choose to come to this school but still suffer from ants in their pants like any 7th grader. I have 7th graders for my integrated science class and 6th and 7th graders for my Zoology class. As a charter school, we are a member of the International Baccalaureate program which means, among other things, that we really stress inquiry learning which is really conducive to science where we can be really hands on.
