  • The Power of Digital Publishing...A Gateway for English Language Learners!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Students were able to use the large post-it posters to engage in project-based learning activities while in collaborative groups, as well as utilizing the smaller post-its while commenting on articles from our local newspapers and magazines. They were able to use the ink provided to supply our classroom printer to print out their classwork and homework assignments and publish their creative writing samples. They used the supply of printer paper in the resource room as needed, which they found so beneficial!

The item that my students were most item the students enjoyed receiving were the scientific calculators that they were able to have access to during their tutorial sessions. they felt empowered to execute their mathematical equations with their new calculators, how excited they were! I have students that have difficulties acquiring English as a second Language that were particularly appreciative of the calculators and access to the printing capabilities because they no longer had to go to the library all the time and had the resource right at their fingertips, thank you so very much for your generosity. The new technology that the students have have changed their accessibility to resources in their classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White-Lindsey

  • Functional Learning Stations to Boost Academic Success!

    Funded Oct 4, 2019

My students and I are overjoyed by the generosity your organization has shown. Once I explained that our project had been funded my students initial reaction was, "We can't believe this, are your serious!" What was most exciting to my students was that they saw the thoughtfulness of those who they do not know personally. They are truly grateful for your generosity. The printing resources we received have been used to build our classroom resource center in several ways; students can now publish their masterpieces in printed form using their new wireless printer and color ink! Student would often have difficulties when required to print their class assignments, scholarship documents and projects so now for students that would not have access to printing capabilities it no longer a barrier. For instance, my students recently completed a project on their ancestry and cultural background, using the printer in the resource room, they were able to showcase the unique colors of their native country's flag and displaying pictorial representations of their background with ease. My students look forward to many more opportunities to use the printer and label maker while in the resource room. Again we say thank you and we appreciate your donation.”

  • The Language of Science in a Digital Age!

    Funded Oct 31, 2018

My students and I want to truly thank you for your generous contribution to our class. The surface tablets have been an amazing addition to our science tutorials as they are our digital gateway to language learning in STEM content areas such as math and science. Several students were excited to have the tablets because they have been able to research, create, and present amazing projects in class. Additionally, they have used the tablets to complete home learning assignments requiring Audio and visual effects! Again, I say thank you and I will continue to nurture my students as they matriculate through their high school years.”

  • Mobile Language Learning Station!

    Funded Nov 9, 2017

My students and I are overjoyed by the generosity your organization has shown. Once I explained that our project had been funded my students initial reaction was, "We can't believe this, are your serious!" The resources we acquired have been used to assist our classroom resource center in several ways; students can now print class assignments and documents via the wireless printer, access the translation dictionaries to assist their writing and text-related schoolwork, and while using the listening station check out headphones at their leisure. For instance, my students recently completed a project on their ancestry and cultural background, with the mobile cart resources available they were able to utilize the printer for color pictures of country flags, translate descriptions of project to english with ease, and interact more closely with one other as a result. The next steps for my students and I is to expand our mobile learning station to a more permanent structure in an English Language Learners Resource Room where studying, tutoring sessions, and school projects can be completed in an environment with academic resources. We look forward to many more opportunities to use these resources while in the classroom and at home. Again we say thank you and we appreciate your donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. White-Lindsey

Situated in the Urban Community of Liberty City, Miami Northwestern Senior High School serves a dynamic group of Sixty-Five English Language Learners. I have had the privilege of working with this group of students over the past year(s) as a result of their unique academic needs. The majority of students in my Developmental Reading Classes have been in the United States an average of 3 months and require specialized resources to quickly bridge the "language" gap and prepare for the high school requirements required to graduate. As our community of learners have begun to learn the English Language limitations in classroom resources and technology often stagnates their ability to effectively communicate and acquire critical vocabulary skills. Exposing these students to digital media, color-rich print material, and access to quality technology will provide a window of opportunity to acquire the "American Dream!"
