I teach in Miami-Dade County. I can say that the majority of my school is African American, and the rest of my students are from Latin America and the Caribbean. I have students from Honduras, Nicaragua, Argentina, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bahamas, and Puerto Rico. My school is a big melting pot where different cultures come to obtain an education so that they can achieve the "American Dream". Although I really see all of my kids wanting to succeed, the conditions and resources available to them do not make success an easy task. It amazes me that students do not let this stop them. They come into school everyday seeking that knowledge that is going to push them past their current situation.
