I live in a remote Alaskan Village 8 miles north of the Arctic Circle on the Yukon River. I am school counselor and work with students grades K-12. My students are all Native Alaskans. There are no roads which link the local communities to a major road or a large community. Students do not have much opportunity for after school activities besides basketball. My students are very much creative and hands-on learners. The students are starting to loose their culture and the traditions of native arts. Many students often feel isolated from the academic focus of Math, English and Science and long for more options in Elective course to express themselves.
