Bilingual, Bi-literate, Bi-cultural Students
Funded Dec 31, 2019I would like to say thank you for generosity. Your donation helped the students at our campus reach a jew level of education. Our students come from home where literacy does bot come easy. Our parents are bot educated and have a difficult time helping the children.
The books that were purchased with you donations allowed our students to have access not only to literature but to become fluent in a 2nd language. As students read the books, students were able to experience proper grammar usage and new vocabulary words. Through the stories, students were also able to experience cultural aspects of being hispanic. Students were able to learn about their heritage and many connected with the lives there parents have lived.
Again, on behalf of William J. Clinton Elementary we thank you for your kindness. Without your generous donation we would not be able to accomplish what we did.”

Afterschool Book Club
Funded Oct 11, 2015Every year Texas Bluebonnet Award nominates 20 books that meet the criteria for their award. 3rd - 5th grade students across Texas are able to vote for their favorite Bluebonnet book nominee as long as they read 5 out of the 20 books. Students chose their favorite book from the ones they read, then wait for the winner to be announced.
Due to budget cuts and increase in enrollment, our school library obtained 2 copies of each books. This limited the number of students that were able to read the books. With your gracious donation, we created an after school book club. This allowed a minimum of 15 students per book to enjoy reading these books. We were able to conduct 3 after school clubs at one time. I was fortunate to receive help from 2 other teachers, so were able to target the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at the same time. Once we finished with one book, we continued with the others until all 5 books were completed. This gave the opportunity for more students participate in voting. Most importantly, we were able to motivate more students to read and become life long learners.
The outcome was fantastic. This year we had the highest number of students participate in voting for their favorite Bluebonnet nominee than any other year. These results demonstrate that we were able to reach more students, not only for voting purposes, but we were able to introduce students to a love of reading. Once again, Thank You for your generosity.”

Life Long Readers
Funded Sep 3, 2014I would like to thank you for your generosity towards my classroom. The reading center and the books for the listening center have been very beneficial. My students were very excited when they saw boxes coming into my classroom. When I assembled the reading center, the look was priceless. They knew they were going to have a place in my room to enjoy a good book.
The students in my classroom have been given a book level. According to their book level they are to read books at the reading center. The books have helped them build on their decoding skills and their fluency. The listening center books are helping my English Language Learners develop their fluency and comprehension.
The students in my class are very eager to go read in the reading center. They really enjoy sitting on the mats reading to each other. They constantly ask if they can read in the reading center. I have seen an increasing in their willingness to pick up a book. Some of my students are getting excited about the chapter books that are in the higher levels. They tell me they are practicing their reading so they can read chapter books on their own. This shows me that they are motivated to read and that they are losing the fear of the chapter books.
Once again, Thank you very much for your generous donation. I have already seen a great boost in self esteem in my students when it comes to reading.”
