  • Help Us Become Readers!

    Funded Dec 16, 2014

Thank you so much for this donation to our class. The students were so excited to get new books for our class library! They had so many more choices to choose from and are excited to read these new books. Students read to each other and I also read aloud some of the books to them.

Many of the books that are donated are AR. Which means that they are in a reading program that our school uses where students read the books and answer comprehension questions about the book on the computer. So, students are also able to use these books to help improve their reading comprehension.

This project helped our classroom. We do Language Art stations and our reading station is far more interesting having books that are fiction and non fiction books. Students read to themselves and to their partner. Due to the variety of books that we have, students are more engaged in reading.

Thanks again for providing our class with books that have helped students become fluent readers and helped improve their reading comprehension.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Ochoa

My classroom is 80% English Language Learners. Many of my students are still not able to read all the letter sounds. So, I know we have a lot of work to do. Many of these students come from low income families that make a living as farm workers. The parents have little, or no education. However, these families are very supportive in their child's education and want their child to succeed in school. The school is a small school that has about 22 teachers. The students are made up of middle class and low income families. The school has lost a lot of parent involvement because some middle class families have chosen a different school for their child. The principal and teachers are working hard to bring back parent involvement and bring unity to this community to help our kids learn and have pride in their school and education.
