Almost every student on my caseload is working hard to increase their reading fluency, which automatically effects their ability to comprehend and understand a text. These two skills go hand in hand. Audio assisted readers will give my students more opportunities to meet their fluency goals, and therefore, get them closer to fulfilling their hopes and dreams for reading. Not only will audio-assisted texts build proper phrasing and expression, they will improve sight word recognition, increase reading rate, and build comprehension. These materials will engage my students in a meaningful activity while I squeeze in effective reading conferences with the other students in their group. Due to our short time together, it is important that every minute counts. I am hoping to acquire two sets of leveled audio assisted readers as well as the listening center and headphones needed to play the CDs. The change you see in an emergent reader when everything comes together is incredible -- together, we can make it happen for them all.
