Now, more than ever, our students need more diverse books to read and learn from. I am on a mission to make this happen for the students in my classroom. I want to celebrate the diversity of my students. These books will make a positive difference in the social and emotional learning of all of my students.
My hope is that these new books will provide a variety of experiences where my students can see themselves, their families, and their cultures in the stories they read. When students can relate to the characters with similar circumstances they will be able to make connections with their learning. I am also hoping that they will be able to expand their world view and learn more about other people's cultures as well.
Being able to get new engaging books to my students will help them continue in there reading and learning journey. Many of my students have little to no reading materials at home. This is critical to advancing their reading skills. I also want to develop empathy and inclusion of others. I plan to distribute books to my students while they are home and will trade them out when they are ready for a new book.
