Flexible Seating & Adaptive Art Tools

Funded Feb 6, 2023

Thank you for funding my flexible seating and adaptive art tools project for my visual arts and ceramic classes. I used the tall stools, wobble cushions, chair bands, bulb paint brushes, and adaptive tool grips for their particular ceramic and painting projects. With the adaptive tool grips and bulb paint brushes, my students are learning how to alter their grip on their tools, which is healthier and less physically damaging to their bodies.

The first item my students noticed was the tall stools. At first, they all vocally declared they did not like them and preferred the regular chairs. As time progressed, my students constantly fought over the tall stools because they wanted the perching experience. The wobble cushions and chair bands are a hit for students who need a physical fidget. My fellow educators noticed the adaptive seating options during staff meetings and commented that they needed a chair bounce band. I was able to provide a few adaptive tool grips and chair bands to our Special Education Department to provide opportunities for our physically handicapped students.

The following steps for my students and classroom are to continue using these flexible seating and adaptive tools to improve their focus on their visual arts and ceramic projects. Since incorporating these tools in my classroom, my students have been able to advocate for their own needs to stay focused. One of my visual art students commented that he liked the stools because they made him feel like a real artist.

Thank you so much for funding my classroom project! My students and I appreciate this!”

With gratitude,

Mrs. Swanson
