Help Teach Diversity in the Classroom
Funded Aug 15, 2017I am so excited to get and use these books in the classroom. The beginning of the year is the perfect time to use these books as read alouds. We will be building our community in the classroom and I know these topics will help everyone feel included and safe. Again my goal is to help these young students start to understand these very difficult subjects. Thank you so much for contributing to my class!”

Funded Sep 25, 2014This project has changed the atmosphere of my classroom from the moment they were brought in. The exercise balls immediately took over the normal chairs and students haven't looked back since. The students are much more focused on my teaching or their assignment because all of the normal excess energy is being released with their consistent bouncing. We are able to get a lot more done each day because I don't have to stop and try and contain that normal energy. They get to control it!
The students were so excited when the balls first came and still are 3 months later. They also feel very privileged to be the only class in the school to have them. Other students are so envious and it is obvious my students are very proud to be a part of this. That has also brought the class together. So the class climate has even changed because of this gift. They are very honored when observers come into the room to talk about the exercise balls and the benefits of them.
As I said, the balls have completely replaced almost all the chairs in my classroom. Students do have a choice but almost every day the majority choose to use the exercise ball. They have loved it and I have seen less behavioral outbursts thanks to the gift!”

Funded Mar 13, 2016Dear Donors,
Technology in education creates opportunity for all students. It levels the playing field for students in all situations. In our classroom we are lucky to have 1:1 iPads and it provides students with the chance to research, engage and learn from a variety of sources from educational apps to google. It allows students to collaborate with each other in ways they have never experienced. Technology is a skill that students will need to succeed in the 21st century and it starts in the classroom.
The headphones that were provided for each student allows me to differentiate the material they receive. I can provide support to those students that need it the most and the freedom to those students that need to branch out on their own more. The students love that the headphones are new, they each get their own pair and they are very kid friendly!
All students have benefited from the headphones. The English as a second language students benefit from the technology because they can receive the material in a language that is familiar to them. Students are able to hear the translation they need. My higher, independent students benefit from the headphones because it allows them to receive the material at a pace that is appropriate for them. This same situation applies to the lower students. The headphones provide me with the ability to differentiate like never before!”

Mrs. Weathers
