I have a wonderful group of 31 hardworking, diverse students in my 5th grade classroom this year. Many of my students are English Language Learners, and come from Spanish-only speaking households. About half of the students in my class are below grade-level reading proficiency at only a 2nd and 3rd grade reading level. My biggest goal for this year is to help these students advance so that I can bring those who are below up to at least 5th grade reading level by the end of the school year before they begin their education at a new school next year for 6-8. My school is a wonderful place for learning for the students who attend. All of the teachers deeply care for the success and well-being of the students, and we all closely collaborate and plan instruction together to help build an atmosphere of teamwork. The area surrounding our school can pose a little danger at times, but we ensure that the safety of our students will never be threatened.
