The books I'm asking for will allow kids to hear about other people who are going through similar things. I'm asking for books that emphasize kindness and empathy. I'm also hoping to stress the diversity of our community. New books are always exciting for kids and these books will help add more reading opportunities to our classroom library. Over the last few years, I've asked my class what kinds of books they would like to read and they always choose books that reflect themselves; whether it be characteristics, names, ethnicity, or ability.I purposely chose books at a variety of reading levels as my class has all types of learners. I want kids to be able to see themselves in the books that they read and feel successful as they are reading.
