My students are incredibly eager to learn about themselves and the world. Their families have come to Houston from 4 continents and they embrace that diversity. Though more than 60% of our students are classified as economically disadvantaged, excellence is expected of them and they rise to meet those expectations. I have witnessed their resilience in the wake of hurricane Harvey, which did tremendous damage to this community. In my classes students use the discipline of music performance to learn about artistry through hard work, discipline, and collaboration.
