  • Digital Resources to Support Remote Learners!

    Funded Nov 17, 2020

The addition of the two resources this projected provided have really helped to add variety to our school days. The kids have especially enjoyed the videos on Brainpop Jr. The characters in these videos do a great job explaining different topics in a way that is easy for kids to understand. The fun videos from Flocabulary really appeal to a lot of our classmates who are interested in music. These videos have been a great way to reinforce or introduce ideas this year. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to spice up our day a bit by giving the kids two more sources for information.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Reitz

  • Scholastic News for Reading Penguins

    Funded Aug 18, 2015

Thanks to your donation of the Scholastic News subscriptions, my students are being exposed to current events taking place in our world. This exposure helps facilitate classroom discussions and expands my students' schemas so that they can make better text-to-world connections. The newsletters also provide an excellent source of on grade level non-fiction text for my students to get practice reading. The newsletters are highly engaging and keep the students focused while providing them an opportunity to answer text dependent questions.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Reitz

  • Engaging Non-Fiction and Fiction For Our Library!

    Funded Oct 7, 2013

My class and I are extremely grateful for your generosity! We used the "Who was..." series of books recently to complete an in-depth informational writing biography project. The texts were perfect resources for my 3rd and 4th grade students. My kids were able to take notes from the text and use those notes to complete several different pieces, which they then shared. If we had not had this resource then the students would have had to either not do this project or spend time researching their individual online or in other sources.

Being able to supplement my science fiction collection with the popular Choose Your Own Adventure series has also been wonderful! The kids literally snatch these books up and read them over and over again, making different choices to see the different outcomes. I often hear my students talking about the plots of these stories. Having highly engaging reading materials, especially for the boys in my class, has been a true gift.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Reitz

  • Help Our Hurting Behinds!

    Funded Nov 4, 2012

My students have truly appreciated having the new seating options! The kids spend a lot of time at the carpet throughout the school day. It's nice that they do not have to sit on the hard floor the whole time. They have been very good about sharing the new seating options. Whether it is listening to a story, taking part in a classroom discussion about social studies, or reading their book quietly, I have both seen and heard my students' appreciation of the new cushions. Thank you so much for helping outfit my classroom with these cushions. I anticipate kids being grateful for this addition for years to come.”

  • Stretched Out Necks and Squinting Eyes

    Funded Jul 24, 2012

My class has loved having the document camera this year. We use it every single day. It has allowed the kids to see things up close that they would have had to strain to see otherwise. I have used the camera to read picture books to the kids and have the pictures on the big screen. I've shown the kids an up close view of several science experiments. I've been able to use various math manipulatives under the camera and have them projected on the screen for everyone to see at once. This keeps me from having to give directions multiple times.

I sincerely thank all of the donors who helped this tool make its way to our classroom. I'm not sure how I got along without it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Reitz

  • Reading Penguins Are Confused - Classroom Library Part 1

    Funded Feb 11, 2009

Our class has greatly benefited from having this storage space available to us. We are so happy that donorschoose.org was successful for us. The students are now able to choose books much more easily and I am able to put out many more books for them to choose from. I am also able to organize the books by subject, level and genre much more easily.

It is hard to believe that we ever managed to have a successful class library prior to the arrival of this new book shelf. Again, thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Reitz
