  • Networking Safety and Classroom Ergonomics

    Funded Feb 18, 2024

    Fluorescent and harsh lighting can cause eye strain, headaches, and fatigue, particularly during long periods of studying. Because my students are constantly on the computer the light filters help to soften the brightness of overhead lighting, creating a more comfortable environment that reduces visual discomfort for both myself and my students .

    With an increase of students with ADHD, the light filters will create a calmer, less distracting atmosphere, helping students with sensory sensitivities or ADHD. Studies have shown that certain types of lighting can contribute to increased stress and anxiety. A softer, more natural lighting can promote a sense of calm in the classroom. This is particularly beneficial for SEL for students who need to regulate their energy levels. When students feel more comfortable, focused, and less distracted, they tend to be more productive in class. which can impact my students' academic performance and participation in class.”

  • STEM-tacular Workshop for 4-6th Graders

    Funded Nov 18, 2023

    The seniors in Mrs. Takara's Work-Based Learning class were able to create a STEM"tacular" workshop for the 3rd- 6th grade students in the Nanakuli and Waianae districts on December 27-29, 2023. Through your generosity, the students created 5 activities that demonstrated STEM objectives. We had about 11 students initially sign-up and by the end of the 3-day workshop we had 16. My students were put into groups of 4-5 students. Each group came up with a STEM activity. Each group was responsible for planning their lesson which included preparing a lesson plan. Students also had to create a supply list and budget plan. All students were responsible for their group activity but also assisting other groups with their activity.

    Due to the success of the workshop, we were asked to do the workshop again. We will be doing a second workshop on March 18-21, 2024, however, we have been asked to increase the number of students to 30. Thank you for your generosity!! We could have not done it without you.”
