Battle of the Books
Funded Nov 10, 2022Thank you so much for providing my classroom with a wide range of reading materials. The stories are shared with the students and they are able to work in groups to read the stories. We have a school wide Battle of the Book competition that the students will compete in and many of the titles are used for this reason. There are also some books in Spanish for some of my Spanish speaking students. This allows all students to take part in the competition. These books would not normally be something I would be able to offer the whole class.
Thank you for the support!

Funded Dec 5, 2014Upon receiving the I pad the students were told that we would be able to utilize a second I pad in the classroom. The students were excited to be able to use this tool at various times during the day. Many of the students have never used an I pad before and do not have technology like this in their home. This is something that the students value in the classroom and I am glad to be able to provide them with experience using this tool.
The students are able to use an I Pad each day during their reading centers. They work on a program called Lexia which enhances their reading and foundational skills. The students look forward to this center and they are able to practice their reading while using the I pad. The students are also able to utilize the I Pad during their break time during the day. If a student has earned a break, this is a great tool for them to get some free time while playing an educational game. The I Pad can also be used with our new reading program. The students can participate in activities that connect to the reading, grammar and phonics skills that they are learning. I enjoy that the students are able to use it for this reason because it is more engaging to the students than a paper and pencil task.
Having an I Pad in the classroom has really helped me provide the students with more opportunities to utilize the technology available in the 21st century. I feel like I am providing the students with experiences that will help them in their future. It can also be used as an additional tool to enhance students learning who have learning disabilities. I am always looking for different ways to differentiate instruction.
The Scholastic News was also very exciting for the students. This has been a great way for the students to learn about current events as it connects to second grade science and social studies standards. The students have also mentioned that they enjoy taking their packets home and sharing them with their families.
I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and kindness as it has helped the students in my classroom learn using resources that would otherwise not be available to them.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. C.
