I instruct students from kindergarten to fifth grade, depending on the needs of the students during the school year. Most often I work with students in grades kindergarten through second grade. Early intervention is so important. These students are often reluctant to try in a large classroom and many are self-conscious about their perceived limitations. Our building opened six years ago. The population has fluctuated over the course of that time. We have gone from a Title One building with five reading teachers to a building of almost 600 students and two reading teachers. This school year, we have had an influx of move in students. These students have been considerably lower than our current population of learners, which has provided many challenges. Many of these students have social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs. Small group reading support provides them a place to be successful while having direct instruction tailored for their learning style and needs.
