Funded Sep 1, 2016We cannot tell you how integral these benches and floor tiles are to the teaching and learning that goes on in our classroom each and every day. On a daily basis, the benches and floor tiles provide comfortable places for the teachers in our classroom to provide small group instruction for our students. They also serve as a cozy place for students to read and for partners to work on projects together. Recently, our class created projects on the ancient Aztec, Inca, and Mayan civilizations. They used an app on iPads to create these projects, and many of them spent a lot of time stretched out on the floor tiles or sitting comfortably on the benches as they worked.
Our students are very appreciative of these comfortable seating options, and we look forward to using them in the coming months as we continue small-group instruction and project-based learning.”

Read All About It: Scholastic News Subscription
Funded Jul 25, 2016In our classroom, we spend a lot of time reading! Sometimes we read with partners or independently, other times we read aloud or do shared reading. One thing that we can all agree on is that everyone loves reading Scholastic News.
Just last week, we launched a new unit in nonfiction reading, so this is the perfect time for us to use our Scholastic News magazines! During independent reading time, you can look around the room and see many of our students with their noses inS Scholastic News. They are particularly interested in what is going on with the election right now, and they were happy to see that there was a special election issue. In fact, we are all studying different election topics now, so Scholastic News articles will be invaluable to our research on these topics.
Thank you once again for all of your generosity in giving to this project!”

Favorite Fiction Books to Fill Our Classroom Library
Funded Mar 11, 2016Thanks to your generous donations, our students have been able to access many of their favorite fiction series books in the classroom. Our students are able to really get to know the characters in these books because they can follow the same characters throughout the series. This has also helped to improve student engagement around reading because our students have been so excited to have many new books in the classroom.
Some of our more reluctant readers have discovered a new series that they love and have been reading rapidly through the entire series. Many of our students who love to read comic books have really enjoyed reading the graphic novels. It has enabled them to access higher level text more easily because of the illustrations.
Thank you so much for bringing these books into our classroom!”

Funded Sep 17, 2015I am writing to let you all know how much my students are enjoying their Scholastic subscriptions. With every new issue, they are dying to get their hands on the magazines, and when we pass one out, often on a Friday morning, they are completely engaged. Their Scholastic News subscriptions are a huge part of their nonfiction reading lives, and they absolutely LOVE them!
We were able to use some of the articles in the magazines to support our students' research on various informational topics such as how dogs can be helpful to humans in different ways. Now we have started reading and writing about debatable issues with a focus on analyzing and building arguments. The "Debate" section included in every Scholastic News serves as an invaluable resource in supporting this work.
Finally, reading Scholastic News just gets our kids talking about issues and asking questions. It is a perfect way to engage them with real-world issues. We will continue to take advantage of and enjoy this resource for the rest of the year and beyond!”

Scholastic News: Hot Off The Press!
Funded Sep 2, 2014We are so grateful to you for your generous donation to our classroom. I read the thank you notes my students wrote before sending them off, and some of the things they said about why they love having Scholastic News included: being able to read about sports, being able to read articles about their city, reading about hot debate topics, and reading about animals.
We have been using the Scholastic News magazines in our classroom throughout our nonfiction reading unit in order to support student learning. They are so excited about reading and discussing the topics in the magazine. We have used articles extensively to teach them skills such as identifying the topic and main idea of a text.
Above all, Scholastic News brings joy to our classroom! Not only is it an awesome tool for teaching and learning, but everyone is able to have their own copy! They think this is very special, and they are so pleased when a new issue arrives in our classroom. Thank you again for your support.”

Ms. Orman
