Funded Sep 15, 2010I want to express my deepest appreciation to you all for taking an interest in our project. The students were ecstatic to receive the materials and could not wait to begin putting them to use. Many of the students in our class have specific challenges with impulsivity and anger management. These materials have been a positive outlet for them to channel these emotions.
As a class we created guidelines for the container of fidgets. The students are allowed to use them whenever they need help focusing on a task. They can hold the fidget in their hand, place it on their desk, or simply set it in their lap. When they feel agitated, they can squeeze, rub, or roll the fidget in their hand. Probably the two items used most of all are the shoulder lizards and the soothing sounds machine. The students love to have the heartbeat sound on while we are doing quiet work, they all say it helps them to stay relaxed. Many students go straight to the weighted shoulder lizards and wear them during any writing activity. This helps them to stay grounded when they are feeling especially nervous or anxious. Of course, the peaceful carpet is just that, a quiet, calm place for them to go when they need to relax.
Again, thank you so much. It feels great to know that we are supported by the community at large. It really means a lot to us.”

Aiming For The Stars!
Funded Jan 14, 2010Thank you again for your generosity and for taking an interest in the education of my students. My class was so excited to use the camera on projects such as science experiments to creating a pictorial class expectation poster.
They have been able to document the different stages of plant growth and create charts to display for reference. One of their favorite activities was taking pictures of themselves following our classroom expectations. They love to see themselves doing the right thing and it has been such a positive motivator for them.
Our district is currently undergoing serious financial strain, as are many districts around the country, and I sincerely thank you for sponsoring such a wonderful program as Donors Choose.
