  • Connecting a Community, One Book at a Time

    Funded Sep 13, 2018

Thank you so much for helping to bring our school a Little Free Library! My students, along with the students in the rest of the school, have been using the book box every day, and I've already seen some kiddos, who were not big readers before, really starting to develop a love for reading.

The library, especially at the end of the school day, is always bustling. Seeing the kids flock to it and swarm around it has been joyous to watch. I love seeing parents and their children standing together checking out the contents and borrowing books to take home and read together; it is such a wonderful addition to our school and community!

The Little Free Library has only been up for a little while, but it is already taking on a life of its own. I love checking up on it and finding books that others have left. It truly has become a lending library. I have heard that other schools in the area are looking to add their own Little Free Library because they saw ours in action. You have truly helped spread a love of reading, one book at a time!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mann

  • Connecting a Community, One Book at a Time (Part 2!)

    Funded Oct 22, 2018

I can't say thank you enough for helping me to make this dream of mine a reality. The Little Free Library that you helped to bring to our school has already made such a positive impact on our community. The students love to check it every day as they walk home from school, and it has been exciting to see some of these kids find the perfect book and become excited about reading.

Not only is it exciting to see the kids taking books, but our little free library has also received books from our students and our surrounding community! It always brings such a sense of satisfaction when I open the door of the library and see books that I did not put there! It is truly becoming a real lending library, and many people, students as well as their parents, are getting in on the action.

This truly is a gift to our community, as well as to our own students, and I am just so grateful for your generous donation. My hope is that the idea of the library will spread and that we will start seeing them around town. Thank you for helping to spread a love of learning and reading, and for connecting our community one book at a time!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mann

  • Teaching with Technology: Let's All Go to the Movies

    Funded Sep 23, 2014

What a difference a little technology makes! With your generous donation, we were able to add two more tablets to our classroom. These two tablets are in constant rotation among the students; they have been putting them to such great use!

Besides using the tablets for web-based research and for posting on and checking out our class blog, the students have been using the tablets to play math games that improve and challenge their math expertise. They have also used the tablets to research the eight parts of speech. They were able to use the tablets' cameras to take pictures which they have then incorporated into movie posters for the classroom.

With the addition of a tabletop movie making studio, students will soon be able to create mini movies and productions using the tablets to research and then record. They will have the opportunity to see their imaginations and hard work on the big screen, so to speak.

We are able to do these kinds of fun, core-curriculum-based projects because of your generous donation, so thank you again for helping our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mann

  • Teaching with Technology: Blogging in the Classroom

    Funded Sep 13, 2014

My students are beyond grateful for the generous donations that allowed us to receive our tablets that you helped purchase for our classroom! They have been using them daily during various parts of the the day to access our blog and to do internet research. They know how to treat them, and they have been taking extra special care of them. Because we have limited technology in our classroom, these tablets have been a great way for our class to be able to do more web-based activities, including having more access to our class blog.

Our class blog used to consist of just a couple of basic web pages that included some links to academic sites and activities. Thanks to your donation, we have been able to include even more pages on our class blog this school year. Thanks to the introduction of the added technology, students are able to publish pieces at a much higher and steadier rate than before.

Students are able to access the blog during free time to see what their fellow classmates have been publishing. They can leave comments on articles that their classmates have written. They love to leave comments on each other's blog posts, sharing their thoughts as well as words of encouragement to the various authors. This camaraderie has acted as an incentive for more students to publish more posts.

Again, I would like to thank you for your generosity. You are greatly appreciated!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mann

My 5th grade students, who range in age from 9 to 12 years old, are great kids with a variety of interests and personalities. The commonality among them is that they are caring, inquisitive, and excited to learn. I teach at a low income, Title 1 school; many of my students are on free and reduced lunch. This has not stopped our students from obtaining the title of a California Distinguished School, or from performing well on standardized tests. This is due to a wonderful, dedicated staff, and to students and families who care about education. My kiddos are bright and eager to learn, and they deserve to have every opportunity to become college ready and to continue to grow as innovative, creative thinkers.
