My school is one of the most diverse high schools in California. Even though it is relatively new, and surrounded by newer developments, you could think that it lies in an affluent area. Nothing can be more deceiving. 48% of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. Many of my students live in foster homes or group homes. Some of my students come to school hungry or without any school supplies because their families cannot afford to buy backpacks, binders, new shoes, etc. Many of my students are English learners.
