  • Inspiring Reluctant Readers with Engaging Books

    Funded Oct 20, 2010

Thank you so much for the generous donation of the Hunger Games series to our classroom. My students have been absolutely devouring the books, and I cannot pass them off to the next student quick enough. Many of my most reluctant readers have been eagerly awaiting their turn to read about Katniss Everdeen and her adventures, and I could not have asked for anything more.

In addition, many of my students have been inspired by the books to write their own similar stories in our writer's workshop. It has been thrilling to watch their imaginations take over as they try out writing strategies they learned from these books.

As a teacher, I really appreciate the support of people like you, who make my job that much easier by helping me to bring materials to my students that I know they will really like. You allow me to go above and beyond to really invest my students in the importance (and enjoyment) of reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Deimel

  • The World at Our Fingertips: Current Events in My Classroom

    Funded Sep 5, 2009

This letter is to further express my gratitude for your donations toward my project "The World at our Fingertips." We recently received our first issue of Current Events magazine and reading it with my students has been an incredible experience. Students have learned about everything from swine flu to the Supreme Court using just our first magazine, and their reading has sparked lively debate about things like flu prevention and the decisions of the Supreme Court. Many students left my class after our first current events lesson excited to go home and watch the news or read the newspapers they have at their houses! It was truly incredible to hear.

It is already clear to me that reading these magazines will open my students up to the world in a way they have not experienced before. I cannot thank you enough for helping my students see out of their small corner of the world to the global events all around us- it has been inspiring for me and I hope it is inspiring for you as well!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Deimel

  • An Overhead Projector: An Essential Factor In Good Teaching

    Funded Oct 5, 2008

Thank you so much for funding my proposal for an overhead! I am so excited to be able to use this in my classroom to make my instruction more efficient. I have been quickly running out of copies and to be able to use an overhead to transmit notes to students will truly be a blessing. Additionally, I have found a great "Responding to Art" activity left by a former teacher in my room which requires that I display the art on an overhead in my room, and it will be great to be able to begin this skill-building and creativity-forming activity. This will truly improve instruction in my classroom by leaps and bounds, and I am so thankful for your funding of my project”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Deimel
