Lots Of Strings For Little Fingers
Funded Dec 13, 2012Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity to the students in my classroom. The kids were very excited when we received the brand new violin in the mail. Your contribution has made a difference in my classroom today and for many years to come! I will let a student borrow this instrument at the beginning of each school year. When I first started at my school we did not have any string instruments so therefore we did not have many students participating. Slowly over time I've been working to build up instruments for the students to borrow each year. Each year I've rented out all of the string instruments in my inventory, sometimes needing to borrow from other schools!
In my school we have a lot of students in low income households. These families cannot afford to rent or buy an instrument from a music store. Through having instruments at the school these students are able to participate no matter what their financial situation is. It is my goal to never turn away a student that has the desire to learn an instrument. Every student that participates in strings uses their own instrument; we strive to have enough so they don't have to share. All of the kids are very careful and protective of their violins. It is wonderful to see the joy on the children's faces when they get to use their own instrument and take it home to practice. This joy is possible because of you.
In today's school setting we are constantly testing the students in the core subjects. It seems that there is no time for kids to be kids. In other areas of our nation music has been cut from the school curriculum because of this push for more testing. This is very sad and disheartening, when this occurs children aren't given the opportunity to explore their creativity. Where would we be as adults if we didn't have that chance as children? I'm very thankful to live in a community that supports the arts. Children can start playing a string instrument in 3rd grade and can continue through the high school level. When students come to my classroom they get a break from the pressures of everyday testing and get the chance to learn an instrument. This is a great experience for students to build self-confidence. They are doing something that is unique and special. It is my privilege as a teacher to watch the students grow from 3rd through 5th grade. It's amazing what they can learn from two 45 minute lessons a week. They put on two concerts a year. The children leave this school and go to middle school having learned a lot of techniques on their instruments and usually excel much more. This is only possible because of your generosity, so they can learn how to play at a young age.
It means the world to me and my students that you were able to contribute to our music program. I hope that you could see how excited the students are from the pictures that were posted. We will use this violin for many years and it will have an impact on a lot of lives. With the help you've given we could be shaping the career of the next great Mozart! Thank you for keeping music alive! I appreciate your kindness so much.”

Violins For A School In Need.
Funded Feb 4, 2009Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. I am a teacher at a Title I school and work with many students who cannot afford to buy or rent instruments. When I first arrived at this school we didn't have any string instruments.
Through lots of hard work I'm happy to report that you have helped our school in getting three instruments that will be used for the next several years. These instruments will be loaned to students and returned at the end of each school year.
Music is so important and it's been shown that students who are involved in music score better on tests. I was very excited to have 35 students in grades 3-5 involved in our strings program this year.
This would not have been possible without the help and generosity of people like you. When we performed our spring concert we had a huge turnout and every student was able to use their own instrument. You have truly helped to change the lives of several students at my school thank you again for your kindness. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Krause
