  • Sustainability Challenge

    Funded Sep 22, 2022

My 10th grade art students and I wanted to extend our gratitude for your generosity. With your support, we were able to provide 13 dress forms to our students who are using recycled materials to participate in the Junk Kouture competition.

The moment the students were handed their dress forms they were so excited - some danced and even posed with them for a photo op. They were excited to see that they could adjust the dimensions to properly match their own body types. Hearing that these were gifts from perfect strangers who wanted to support the arts they were deeply moved. It is rare to find total strangers willing to give money away and I can assure you, no one appreciates it more than my students. These are the warmest, kind-hearted and extremeley artistically talented students you will ever meet.

Right now they are in the construction phases of their sustainability challenge. They are working with a teaching artist learning how to sew and construct their garments. It feels like a reality tv fashion show in my classroom. I have several students who want to be fashion designers and without your support they would not have had the opportunity to work with the proper equipment. We are eternally grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mota

  • Graphic Design

    Funded Mar 2, 2012

I want to extend my extreme gratitude for your generous donations. We received the software shortly after the project was funded and were able to purchase extended licenses. Currently, the computer tech at work is installing the programs on our laptops so that when the students return in September, we can begin working with them.

It is imperative that students who want to further their knowledge and obtain a career in the Visual Arts field, to have knowledge of computer software before even going on to college. With your kindness and support, I now have to tools needed to help them better their future.

When I told the students we were receiving the programs, they were ecstatic! They are so excited for September, as well as I. I have been able to now create a Graphic Design course and hopefully a digital photography class to add to our curriculum and enrich their learning experience.

It is so wonderful to know that there are still people who care about our students, as well as the arts, to support us. Thank you ever so kindly.”

    With gratitude,

  • Framing for Artwork

    Funded Jan 20, 2011

I want to extend my extreme gratitude for you generous donation to my classroom. With your donation, we were able to purchase mat-board. The mat-board is used to professionally frame student artwork. Since we have received the supplies, a number of my students have learned how to frame artwork.

My seniors are Visual Art majors who are mostly interested in pursuing a career in the arts. They are working hard on creating professional portfolios and artwork. Since we have received the mat-board, my seniors have been able to frame some of their artwork. They are learning the skills necessary to this task, and in return, are displaying beautifully framed artwork. They are so excited to be doing so and are eager to create another piece of art that we agree is "frame-worthy."

While the seniors are creating frames, my freshmen are benefiting as well. They are using the scrap pieces of the mat-board as canvas. Currently, they are working on Chuck Close inspired grid enlargements. The students will be painting on the mat-board for the end product.

Once again, from all of us to you, we thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mota

  • Prismacolor Power

    Funded Jan 1, 2011

I want to thank you all for the generous donation to my classroom. My students have been using the Prismacolors and rulers which were purchased with your donations to create beautiful artwork. The quality of work they are producing has improved immensely with these supplies. My students have never used such professional materials to work with, and you can see a huge difference in how they look at their work. They are taking much pride and ownership of the art.

We have completed a series of perspective projects with my freshmen class. They were able to use the rulers and t-squares to create straight lines. They were able to understand the work of an architect and understand some of the materials that would be used in such a profession. They are taking excellent care of the supplies.

My seniors have been able to improve their portfolios with the use of the Prismacolors. Their work is "popping" with color and pizazz. It is extremely important for them to have strong artwork since many of them are looking to further their training in Visual art and become and artist. Thank you again from myself and all of my students.”

    With gratitude,

  • In Need of a Ceramics Program

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

I want to extend my absolute gratitude for your generosity. I am a high school art teacher, who is working on a tight budget. We have been waiting a long time to work with clay in my classroom, and I have had to rely on my teacher's choice money to try and supply my students with some clay, but never had enough for an entire class. This is a wonderful opportunity for my students to get a taste of working with clay, as well as a great starting point for me to be able to add to the supplies I received to continue working with clay.

While I have not yet started the assignment with my sophomores, where the clay is most necessary, my seniors have been able to take advantage of the materials. My sophomores will be using the clay to create miniature sculptures of characters they will be creating for their graphic novels. While that assignment will not take place for a few weeks, I wanted to thank you early enough so that you all know how grateful we truly are. My seniors are working on independent projects, and a handful of them are using clay to further their portfolios. I have a student who is creating a beautiful snake, a young lady who is creating a lovely rose, and a young man who is turning one of his characters into a sculpture. They all seem to be enjoying their experience, and more and more students are looking forward to working with the clay.

I want to end with another huge Thank You! I always find it refreshing to know that there are still people who care deeply about supporting art programs. Please know that while I do not know you all personally, you all hold special places in my heart and my classroom. It is a wonderful thing to be able to tell my inner-city students that there are people who care about there success and happiness. I hope you will enjoy some of the products that I will be displaying on Donor's Choose once the students make more progress.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mota

  • In Need of a Graphic Design Program for High School Students

    Funded Oct 30, 2009

I want to first apologize for the delayed Thank You letter. There has been a few minor issues with receiving my order and unfortunately it had to be re-ordered. On a brighter note, I did receive my package this week and want to extend my extreme gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. It is difficult to create a challenging and effective art program on a tight budget and I have been trying to find a way to get a graphic design program in my school since last year. You have turned my hopes into a reality, and for this I am thankful.

Currently, we are working on downloading the programs onto school laptops where my students will have access to these programs. We will be working on a large variety of projects with these programs. My students have been waiting patiently and now that we have our software they are more excited than I ever imagined they would be. We now have the opportunity to work with Photoshop and Illustrator to create incredible advertising projects, photographic manipulations and original artwork. My juniors are currently enrolled in my design class and I am looking forward into moving the curriculum into digital work.

I do want to apologize in advance if I am unable to get photographs of students working on projects by the deadline, but I will take photographs of the program and the smiling faces of my students who are anxious to work with the software. I can promise you that there will be many projects that will utilize the software, not just this year, but for every year from now on. It truly is heartwarming to know that people still care enough about the arts to support programs and to support my students. They too are grateful that people they do not even know, cared enough to donate to their cause.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Mota

Currently, I teach high school art to 9th through 12th grade students. We are an arts based theme school. My art students have declared majors in the Visual arts and will hopefully graduate with an Arts' Endorsed Diploma. We are a high needs school with an extremely sparse budget for art supplies.
